For the modern millennial woman, dating is an exercise in Machiavellian politics: her partner should fulfill her own ambitions. See also: Taylor Swift. On top of that, these days, women have most of the leverage. I suspect her boyfriend felt he couldn't do any better than her, and he may be right.

I mean—she's OK looking, and if she had more than pea soup between her ears, I might consider taking her out. I'm not that picky. But beauty is only skin deep, while ugly goes to the bone... and she is definitely ugly below the surface. Maybe he's just as ugly as she is in that department, and they're kindred spirits.

If both were apolitical there would be no comparison of the 2.  In my young single days, I wouldn't have given a glance at AOC, and probably thought she was middle of the road in looks. I easily dated at least a dozen better looking than her.
