Funny thing, the Northeastern Media outlets were the ones who constantly pushed the idea of Southern=Prejudiced (among other stereotypes), and to be sure, there was some of that (every stereotype contains some small grain of truth), but the first year our schools were integrated, it was a black student, a guy I knew, had played with and worked with on the farm side by side, who refused to "learn with him", pointing at me. There were two sixth grade classes that year, and he went to the other. Both had black teachers. My sixth grade teacher is one I rank among my all time great teachers.
My parents were Republican, as were many of the folks I knew, even if Lincoln was still regarded as an invader.

It's very disheartening when you've worked did by side with someone for years and then find out they've had a seething hatred for you all that time.
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16

It wasn't hatred, not then and not later, but a definite sense that school was one place we should not act together. We continued to work together for years after that and remained friends for a while. I went to college, he went into the Army, and he got off track and our paths diverged. The disheartening thought is that he got derailed as a result of a barracks inspection in Germany (someone put a pipe in his gear) and his plan to finish his hitch and go on to college took a very different path from there.

Sorry to hear this.

In what was probably the darkest time in my life... The day my very own wheelchair came to my house... We had rented them from time to time to ship me around to family events, but that day, when that accursed thing landed in my living room...

From that time onward for quite a while, all hope was lost. Gone. I knew I would never again walk through my beloved forests, that I was close to never walking again at all.

All of my life was a downward spiral of pain and despair...

There were two shining lights in that utter sea of darkness...
One was Marysecretary and the other was Quix.

I know he was a little quirky, and could rub folks wrong... But let no man deny his love for his fellow man nor his love of his Savior. Because I stand as a witness to testify.

Rest in peace, brother @Quix . I owe much to you.  :0001: :0001: :0001:

Was just thinking about him a few days ago when @roamer_1 and I were trying not to hijack a thread talking about ancient civilizations manipulating genomes. Figured @Quix would love to get in on that.

He was an intense guy but a good soul. And while he chased alot of conspiracies, a number of them have come true.

Yeah, he'd have loved that... I spent many hours on the phone with him going around with all that.
Right up his alley.

Damn...just the other day when you were talking about the Book of Enoch being in your wheelhouse...had posted that I would love to have a good conversation about "Giants" but without the discussion getting "Quixxed"

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. His screen name was Quix

I'm fairly sure that he and Marcella were professionally acquainted.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
