Warren targets supermarket chains over high food prices

Monique Beals - 21m ago

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said in a letter to leadership at Kroger, Albertson's and Publix that the grocery store chains are profiting off of struggling American families during the pandemic.

"While many Americans faced the loss of jobs, homes, and loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic, grocery companies like yours saw immense gains through record sales and profits," Warren wrote.

"Your company, and the other major grocers who reaped the benefits of a turbulent 2020, appear to be passing costs onto consumers to preserve your pandemic gains, and even taking advantage of inflation to add greater burdens," she said.

The senator added that the stores "continued to earn massive profits while pushing grocery cost increases onto consumers" in 2021.

Uhhhhh, this economic "expert" seems to think the way to stay in business is to sell goods at a loss. No wonder she is in Congress. She is too stupid to do anything else.

What "pandemic gains" is she blathering on about?  Grocery stores are middle-men - intermediators between consumers and wholesalers/producers of food products; as such, they didn't run up prices (in vernacular, "gouge") during the plandemic, they passed on the higher prices that were the result of supply constraints caused by (a) consumer panic on certain goods, and (b) government-mandated shutdowns.

She has no earthly clue how economics actually works.

Stupid Indian b___.  Grocery markets basically have most simple and understandable business models on earth.  Small mostly fixed surcharge percentages on food wholesale goods.......  That percentage may vary by scale of company.  Say an Aldi vs. a high end Kroger.  But any consumer of at least a double digit IQ understands that.

If this bitch wants to talk about  price gouging, lets talk about her own work body who does to the taxpayer every freakin' year.

Anyone else thinking they are getting their monies worth on their 1040 every April 15th?

The current supply disruptions have clarified the value of supply side economics to fight inflation back in the 1980s.

As difficult as things may be, we still have food to eat.  We are not in famine - like China and the Soviet Union used to experience on a regular basis, and North Korea experiences to this day.

Or the famine that Venezuela suffers from.  That one, perhaps, hits closer to home because Venezuela was a fairly well-developed, self-sufficient, country before the socialists got a hold of it; now it's ruined.  Venezuela is our likely future if we continue to let fascists like Warren take control.

Yep.  And the sad fact is that 95% of the country doesn't understand this.

And we can thank the press for that. ALL the mainstream media are now owned and controlled by wealthy globalists, and they refuse to report on it because it would do harm to their cause of global domination.

But they are learning. And learning the lesson hard and fast. Most Americans tie high inflation with excess government spending now. The Republican Party  needs to reclaim the title of fiscal conservatism. It needs to become the party of Calvin Coolidge, Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan again. If not, an opportunity will be lost and we will be another Argentina

What Elizabeth Warren is doing here is exactly what I would expect from the likes  of her. Failure needs a scapegoat

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Now I get it. This was the same imbecile who "Preached" that corporation will not have to 'raise prices' because of increased mandatory taxes, increased mandatory labor costs, and skyrocketing inflation. These three will only make American corporations more 'responsive and competitive'.

I envy Liberal Socialists. They live in a kindergarten land of fairies and unicorns, where everybody loves each and they all just want 'peace'. (and to take a nap at naptime)

American Socialists are insane. At least the Global Socialist know they want money, and power, and domination. American Socialists are just idiot fools, who believe in some stupid fairy tale constructed by Marx.

We are being governed by FOOLS.

Oh no, she was one of those the statement 'those who can do, those who can't teach' describes. Let me say that I have great respect for those who teach and are actually teachers. However we all have had or known those who like Warren became teachers to suck at the taxpayer teat and indoctrinate the gullible with her socialist bullshit while becoming a rich capitalist.

Find some elementary school aged children and bring up different subjects and issues facing the country. Listen to their solutions and how they view those problems. They sound exactly like adult leftist

It’s cute when kids think that way. It’s part of their innocence. It’s not so cute when adults wielding  power think that way

It all starts with Fuel.
Fuel to use in the equipment to farm it, to manufacture the cartons and container it ships in.
Fuel to bring it in, to run the forklifts to unload it.
Fuel to get the store workers and the customer to the stores to sell and buy the products.
EVERYTHING moves somehow, and if you raise the prices to move EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING goes up in price.
(not to mention to cool it, ot to heat it, etc.)

I have a great idea!
First, will lock everyone down, and then when we open back up:

Let's kill our pipelines, and let Russia open theirs.
Let's ban fracking, too!
Then, lets beg OPEC and oil companies to lower profits.
We'll just blame it on greed, since no one understands economics, anyway.

I would be temped to go so far as to say that "95 percent of the US don't know what a  Venezuela is,and most that do,don't know where it is or how it got that way."

I have no doubt that thanks to AA and 3rd world immigrants, modern day "Murika" is the most ignorant alleged civilized 1st world nation in the world.

All of our food issues are MAN MADE. The same in other countries.  It is only a matter of time, for us to be 'starving'.
Not allowing seeds to be bought, sent from catalogs. Gardens not allowed.  Are you trying to cheer me and others UP?
How do you think starvation starts.....FOR NOW....gets worse with each passing month.  Not meant for a response from you.  Again, I and my family lived starving socialism.  RATIONS.

The margin most groceries make is less than 5%, and usually less than 2%.

What gouging does she speak of?
