One tornado was on the ground for over 200 miles.

December 11, 2021, 7:23 AM

A devastating tornado outbreak in western Kentucky has claimed the lives of at least 50 people, according to Gov. Andy Beshear.

The total could reach 75 to 100 people, he added, calling it "one of the toughest nights in Kentucky history."

"Dozens" were killed at a candle factory in Mayfield, where 110 people were working when the storm hit Friday night, Beshear said.

One tornado was on the ground for 200 miles, he said, devastating towns like Mayfield and Princeton late Friday. At least four tornadoes tore through western Kentucky. ...

In southern Illinois, in Edwardsville, an Amazon distribution warehouse was hit by an apparent tornado, causing massive damage to the facility, officials said. Officials there confirmed at least two fatalities, but called the search and rescue operations still ongoing. Several dozen workers were able to escape from the building on their own, Edwardsville Police Chief Michael Fillback said Saturday morning.  ...

Deadly tornado rips through several states
NY Post, Dec 11, 2021

A tornado and deadly storm system ripped through Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, and Illinois on Friday night — destroying buildings, leaving dozens of others trapped inside buildings, and potentially killing dozens.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said the death toll is expected to rise between 50 and 70 deaths in the wake of the tornadoes and storms that ripped through the Midwest.

“We have deaths in multiple counties,” he said during a live press conference Saturday morning.
This is one of the toughest nights in Kentucky’s history… We are here for you. We love you. We are praying for you.”

In Tennessee, two storm-related fatalities were reported in Lake County in the state’s northwestern corner, said Dean Flener, spokesman for the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency.

At least 50 likely dead in Kentucky alone, governor says, after tornadoes hit central and southern US
CNN, Dec 11, 2021

CNN)Storms unleashed devastating tornadoes late Friday and early Saturday across parts of the central and southern US including Kentucky, where the governor says the death toll will exceed 50 after "one of the toughest nights in (our) history."

More than 30 tornado reports have been made in at least six states -- including a more than 200-stretch from Arkansas through Kentucky that may have been hit by one violent, long-track twister, CNN meteorologists say.

And in the western Illinois city of Edwardsville, part of an Amazon warehouse collapsed, killing at least two people, and rescue attempts are underway, authorities said.

The extent of damage will not be known fully for hours, but video emerging from those three states alone -- flattened buildings, overturned vehicles and workers scouring rubble for trapped people -- speak of breathtaking devastation in some areas.

"We believe our death toll from this event will exceed 50 Kentuckians, probably end up closer to 70 to 100 lost lives," Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said at a briefing Saturday morning.

Isn't it unusual for tornadoes to come through this time of year??? When we lived in KS as a kid, I remember them only coming through mainly during the summer months.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

When the sun goes quiet for an extended time the weather gets wilder. The normal west to east flow of the jet stream becomes erratic with extreme perturbations.

It's called "The Fickle Finger of Fate",and there is not a damn thing that can be done to avoid it.

It can strike any of us,anywhere we happen to be,at any time.

The current 'Live' coverage on FOX shows complete devastation.

One of the guest experts was saying that tornados form and move so quickly that despite the technology, it's impossible to ensure one's safety.

As @sneakypete said earlier...it's a crap shoot.   It is reported that one of the victims was to graduate from college this weekend.

There is an AMAZON 'Fulfillment' Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.  It is really impossible to describe the sheer scope/size of the building...it would take about 2 HOURS to walk the perimeter.

And guess what?  It is next door to a 'sister' building, also AMAZON.  This building is for shipping the already assorted inventory.

IT'S BIGGER than the fulfillment center!!

To think of a roof collapsing on a building that size...with people inside, is a shock to the system.   God help them.

You can't even assume the workforce was lighter at 2:30AM as it's the Christmas season.

@DCPatriot

For all practical purposes,it's impossible to run from them because they can switch directions at the blink of any eye.

About all you can do is find the safest place you can find at the time, and hunker down and hope it misses you.

Mother Nature ain't playing.

Thoughts and prayers for all victims, those that lost their lives, families and everything short of that. Every time I see devastation like this, to me it refutes the arguments of those that say they prefer this risk to California earthquakes. I guess it the risk you grew up with but,  **nononono*.

I realize this may be tacky this soon but you know if a certain someone was still President the left would quickly blame him for not ending global warming. hell I bet they still beat that dead horse anyway.
