Fort Carroll is the abandoned 19th-century military installation in the Patapsco River. There have been numerous developmental deals that have fallen through over the years to build the base into something substantial for today’s society. The family that owns the land still hopes to turn it into a casino and restaurant getaway.
RAF Upper Heyford - England
This Royal Air Force base was built in 1918 in the early days of military aviation. By 1939, when World War II broke out, the airfield trained pilots for bombing campaigns at night over enemy territory. After the war, the United States Air Force used the base for various programs until 1994, when the base closed for good.
