Biden Dept. of Interior moves to remove 'derogatory' names from federal lands
The department has deemed 'squaw' as a derogatory term
By Andrew Mark Miller | Fox News

The Biden administration has begun the process of replacing the names of some of the nation’s federal lands that have been deemed "derogatory."

Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland announced in a press release Friday that her department has formally established a "process to review and replace" derogatory names such as "squaw" from federal usage.

"Racist terms have no place in our vernacular or on our federal lands. Our nation’s lands and waters should be places to celebrate the outdoors and our shared cultural heritage – not to perpetuate the legacies of oppression," Haaland said. "Today’s actions will accelerate an important process to reconcile derogatory place names and mark a significant step in honoring the ancestors who have stewarded our lands since time immemorial."

The statement adds, "Secretarial Order 3404 formally identifies the term "squaw" as derogatory and creates a federal task force to find replacement names for geographic features on federal lands bearing the term. The term has historically been used as an offensive ethnic, racial, and sexist slur, particularly for Indigenous women. There are currently more than 650 federal land units that contain the term, according to a database maintained by the Board on Geographic Names."

This will never stop, you know.

What is offensive to some is an honor to others.

So who is in the right?

The next Republican administration needs to flush The Dept of Interior, DOJ, FBI and all the rest of the communists and return all the names to those previous to Biden's insanity. Also the next time we hold the Houses it needs to be backed up by the power of law, also that all historical monuments removed by the fascists be installed on Federal property with anyone attempting to damage or tear them down being shot......I can dream can't I?

What's the actual origin of the word "squaw"? I bet it isn't racist or derogatory.

History and Etymology for squaw

Massachusett squa, ussqua woman
Merriam-Webster

A scholarly examination by linguist Ives Goddard:
Quote
...    In its historical origin, however, the word squaw is perfectly innocent, as current dictionaries also correctly indicate:  squaw comes from a language of the Algonquian family in which it meant "woman.''  ... Massachusett  squa appears in the Massachusett Bible (printed in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1663) in Mark 10:6, translating "female,'' and in the plural form squaog in 1 Timothy 5:2 and 5:14, translating "younger women.''  It is found in the writings of Massachusett Indians, including a will written in the Massachusett language by a native preacher from Martha's Vineyard who uses it to refer to his unmarried daughters.  Massachusett squa was an ancient and thoroughly decent word.  ...
