Democrats scramble to figure out shutdown strategy
By Jordain Carney - 11/17/21 06:02 AM EST

Democrats are trying to lock down their strategy for a looming government shutdown fight, as they debate punting into early 2022 or setting up another deadline closer to Christmas.

Congress has until the end of Dec. 3 to pass another government funding bill after using a short-term patch, known as a continuing resolution (CR), to get them past the Oct. 1 start of the fiscal 2022 funding year.

No decisions have been made on how long to extend government funding after the early December deadline, and there are competing schools of thought within House and Senate Democrats about what their next step should be.

One option under discussion is to pass a two-week CR, which would extend current spending levels, to fund the government through roughly Dec. 17. But a source told The Hill that top Democrats are supporting a funding bill that would last until February or March.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) acknowledged that Democrats were debating passing a stopgap bill that would last until mid-December or going “longer.”

“I’d like to keep the pressure on. On the other hand, there’s a lot going on,” said Van Hollen, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Is McConnell's grand strategy to force the Rats to use reconciliation to pass the debt limit increase?

If the Pubs stay united and force the Rats to do this doesn't that end biden's "build back better" garbage?

Just trying to figure out how the Pubs intend to save us from the socialists.

If there is good evidence that this actually is the "mainstream" R's intent, I'd like to see it.

I view the current crop of R's as at public face showing disgust at the dims, but in private and behind the scenes giving the D's gasoline to burn the country down.

This nonsense needs to stop.  How are private domestic businesses supposed to make long-term capital investment decisions with a Government that changes policy by the minute?

The incompetence of this Administration and Dems in general in Congress is creating a perfect storm disaster for Federal employees.

Not only do we have the vax mandate...right after that we have the current CR that ends December 3rd.

And lets not forget about the inflation and price increases on everything we're experiencing too.

Not that the Dems really care...but both of those things in addition to Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner makes for some very bad optics for the Dems in advance of the mid terms.

I'm pretty sure in reality the only "shutdown strategy" the Dems will roll out is the one we've all heard before..."it's the Republicans fault"

Understand your point, but I would suspect that the majority of fed emps voted for this crap... Maybe next time they will be more careful with their votes.

Granted my sample pool isn't very big because I've been at my job less than a year...but I'm finding more like minded individuals in the federal civilian workforce than I thought there would be.
