Lawmakers questioned whether Amazon executives, including Jeff Bezos, misled Congress.

WASHINGTON — A bipartisan group of lawmakers on Monday pressured the Amazon chief executive to respond to allegations that its executives provided a congressional investigation with false answers to questions about its house-brand products.

“At best, this reporting confirms that Amazon representatives misled the committee,” said the group of five lawmakers. “At worst, it shows that he may have lied to Congress in potential violation of federal criminal law.”

In the letter, the lawmakers said they were considering sending the case to the Justice Department for possible criminal investigation. His exchange with Amazon came as part of a longer investigation into the market power of the nation’s biggest tech companies.
