On Wednesday’s broadcast of “Fox News Primetime,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) said that America’s manufacturing dependence on China is the root of the supply chain problems, and President Joe Biden “helped create” this. Cotton also stated that Biden also helped create the short-term issues with enhanced unemployment and locking down the economy.

Cotton said, “[T]he root of the problem…for 30 years, we’ve sent so many of our jobs and manufacturing to China. It’s not easy these days to buy a piece of furniture or clothing or shoes or toys for your kids or Christmas decorations that [don’t] come from China. But now, that’s been the case for 30 years. Joe Biden helped create that. He also…helped create the short-term problem because of the inflation that our country sees due to the supply shortages from paying people not to work, from locking down our economy, all of this was foreseeable.”

Cotton is right, but not spot on.  In case you haven't noticed the supply chain problems are global and not all tied to trade with China.  A lot of them are knock-on effects of pandemic restrictions, which (among other things) have interrupted the training of new truck drivers.  It's worse in the UK, which trades far less with China than we do, and is hitting the EU, too.

Hmmmm....

If anyone "created" this situation, it was the "free traders" who touted that entire industries could be sold away to China, leaving our manufacturing base decimated and the country becoming more and more dependent on a communist enemy for much of our needs.

Utter the word "tariff" in a "conservative" forum and you would be shouted down and branded a liberal or leftist.

Then Mr. Trump came along, and started to set things straight again.

How many [former?] "free traders" in this forum will still proclaim that it represented/still represents the best economic policy for America...?
