You're decades too late, pal.

This whole debacle has convinced me that America's best days are behind us.
Ten years ago, if someone said the words "Atzlan" and "Reconquista", others would just stare and say, "huh"?
Five years ago, when someone said "Atzlan" and "Reconquista" (even here on FreeRepublic), those who did happen to recognize the words laughed at the notion.
Today, folks ain't laughing any more. This is serious business.
What is going on in America today, is EXACTLY THE SAME THING that went on in North America from the time the first Europeans arrived on the continent until about 1890, when the Indians were conquered, vanquished, and banished to reservations. That is to say, the physical displacement of one culture and race with an entirely different and alien one.
Back in those days, the Indians _knew_ what was happening to them, and many of them fought bravely and tenaciously to resist the White Man. I'm sure many of them realized their struggle was futile, but they fought anyway, rather than surrender meekly to the coming onslaught.
I contend that the Whites did to the Indians in North America in the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries was no different that the "ethnic cleansing" the Serbians practiced against Islamic Bosnians in the 1990's. No difference. None. Euro-Americans then believed that their culture (and I daresay, their race) was superior to that of the Indians, and felt absolutely no guilt in their quest to "settle the frontier". And violence against the Indians was considered a necessary means to achieve that end. After all, they were "savages", weren't they?
How ironic that today, we of the Euro-white race and culture, who [back then] made no qualms about our triumph over the Indians and the replacement of their way of life with ours, are all-but-ready to meekly surrender what we have achieved to yet another race and culture that threatens to overwhelm us.
And overwhelm us it will. For it is not only Mexicans who are pouring in. Given the growing and restless populations of Central and South America, how long will it be - after we have THIS ROUND of "amnesty" - before the "next wave" heads north?
America will soon become the Western "Camp of the Saints" (a good book if you haven't read it).
Is it too late to fight back, as at least some of the Indians did?
Perhaps not yet, but when this amnesty goes through, as it will, the precedent for national ruin will have been set. I would like to state for all Freepers reading this [what will soon become] the "new, simplified rules of American immigration":
THE WEST IS THE BEST
GET HERE, AND WE'LL DO THE REST
That is to say, there _are no_ rules; all you have to do is set foot on American soil and you will be rewarded automatically with all the priveleges of citizenship. Isn't that what we're ALREADY doing, by default?
We are committing national, cultural, and racial suicide, right in plain sight. And our elected officials not only won't do anything to stop it, they are FACILITATING it. They are literally giving away the nation that our forefathers built.
Can the invasion be stopped, the occupation of our country reversed?
The answer, of course, is "yes, but"....
Yes, we can stop it. Yes, we might actually _reverse_ the inflow. But that's not going to happen.
"Why not", you and other Freepers will ask?
Well, are you prepared to do with the invaders what we did with the Indians, what the Serbs did to the Bosnians? Ethnic cleansing, American style? A 21st Century "Trail of Tears"?
"Of course not!" you exclaim. "We're too civilized, we have laws and rights here against such cruel mistreatment of humans."
And I agree.
So, rather than act, we (and our government) REact. But I daresay that the United States government is no longer controlling the fate of the nation. Instead, that fate is being determined ad hoc by the throngs who push inward and who are - amazingly - no longer afraid to remain in the shadows, choosing to mass openly in public and plainly state their intentions (as an invading force) for the rest of America to see.
Our elected leaders are going to do next to nothing to repel the invasion. Oh, they may enact some feelgood legislation "for public consumption", but take any _real_ action? C'mon....
For the record, I _am_ willing to stomach the draconian steps that would be necessary to stop the invaders and then remove the occupiers. But then, few others are.
Pete'sWife, your comment is akin to what some of the Indians must have felt back around 1800, when it became apparent that their world and way of life would soon be washed away by another.

Old Will -
RE your posting:
>> I've been saying for over a year (online, anyway) that's it's a lost cause -- that's a reference to "good will," our way of life, our Constitution, fighting a pending police state, fascism, the growing intolerance, ignorance and bigotry as a political stand, and all those things we've always been told couldn't happen in this country. <<
Good post, probably more on the mark than most.
Kind of reminds me of a line Paul Simon wrote back around '73 about seeing "the Statue of Liberty sailing away to sea" ("American Tune").
But something's troubling me. There once was a time when "our way of life" seemed solid and unthreatened. I knew it only briefly when I was younger - back in the fifties. Then came the sixties, and all became tumult. And it's never gotten "back on center" since; perhaps it never will.
Yet isn't it interesting that today's "promoters of 'diversity'" would have us believe that "back then" was such a terrible period in our history, that the fundamental values and mores we shared then as a nation (yes, really "shared", at least the vast majority of us, who were of European descent) were "corrupt"? When there was less "diversity", there was also less "intolerance" (who was there to be "intolerant" against, anyway?). I can't help but feel that the primary reason we *are* experiencing growing friction between nationally/culturally/racially diverse groups is because we must endure precisely so much more "cultural friction" than we did 'way back then. And there seem to be many "cultural leaders" of these groups who realize the best way to make hay among their supporters is to stress group identity over "common values", which - whether they know it or not - are traditionally "European-American values" (or to state even more specifically, White, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant values)...
And sadly, I, too, don't believe it's going to get any better in this country. Perhaps if we had not loosened our immigration laws back in the mid-sixties; if we had been tougher with Mexico regarding our southern front (oops, "border"). Perhaps if our Constitution - and our court system - had been ever-so-much-more "restrictive" than liberal interpretations have proven it to be...
Perhaps we just got too big for our britches. It's a lot easier to be free when your nearest neighbors are a hike down the road, when the towns are small, when the cities, too, are smaller, when there's simply more "space". Crowd too many people together, without common purpose or values, and they begin to bump and bang into one another like too many atoms - a chain reaction that creates heat and friction. This is bad enough when we're all "alike". When we perceive each other as fundamentally "different", it's even worse.
But what has happened has happened; you can't put the genie back into the bottle. Is America possibly becoming "too diverse" to survive as a culturally cohesive nation? Without a dominant and overwhelming cultural majority - to which ALL minority cultures must be subservient and *into which* they will be forced to assimilate - "all those things we've always been told couldn't happen in this country" may indeed happen. At the very least, the America of 2050 will be a very different place than of 1950. And, in at least this writer's eyes, it certainly will not be a better place...
