Top Trump aides set to defy subpoenas in Capitol attack investigation

Source says Meadows, Bannon and others will move to undercut House select committee inquiry – under instructions from Trump

The former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and other top aides subpoenaed by the House select committee investigating the Capitol attack are expected to defy orders for documents and testimony related to 6 January, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The move to defy the subpoenas would mark the first major investigative hurdle faced by the select committee and threatens to touch off an extended legal battle as the former president pushes some of his most senior aides to undercut the inquiry.

All four Trump aides targeted by the select committee – Meadows, deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino, strategist Steve Bannon and defense department aide Kash Patel – are expected to resist the orders because Trump is preparing to direct them to do so, the source said.

The select committee had issued the subpoenas under the threat of criminal prosecution in the event of non-compliance, warning that the penalty for defying a congressional subpoena would be far graver under the Biden administration than during the Trump presidency.

House Jan. 6 panel can't find Trump aide to serve him subpoena

The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol can’t find an aide to former President Trump to serve him a subpoena, CNN reports.

The committee has been unable to officially serve a subpoena to Dan Scavino, former White House deputy chief of staff for communications, CNN reported, citing sources familiar with the effort.

Scavino was subpoenaed late last month because the panel thinks he may have knowledge around Trump’s activities the day before the riot and his promotion of the “Stop the Steal” rally that took place on Jan. 6 before the attack.

They tried lynchin Trump while in office and after, this is just more blood lust to get Trump, and justify the wickedness and evil the democrats so dearly love.  The lowest of the low so dearly love a good lynchin, matters not guilt or innocence.
They are what they are and are who they are.
It's the times we now live in.

What happened to old fashioned perp' walks?

Consequences used to be severe enough to serve as a deterrence against future crimes.  There are no consequences for the rich and powerful anymore ... and shame went extinct with election of President Slick Willy.

Until people start going to jail for defying subpoenas or white collar crime, nothing will change.

Between the FISA malfeasance and the USA Gymnastics scandal, James Comey's FBI was behaving like a criminal enterprise.

Seems it would be in Obama's best interest to shut this precedent down before it takes hold.   :pondering:
