China PCR Test Orders Soared Before First Reported COVID Case, Government Contracts Show Surges in Wuhan-Area Purchases Starting May 2019

According to a new report, there was a dramatic increase in PCR test orders in China during the second half of 2019, prior to the first reported case of COVID-19.

The study, conducted by Internet 2.0, concludes that based on the data analyzed, the virus was likely to be spreading in Wuhan, China as early as the summer of 2019 and most definitely by early fall of 2019.

The study also identified significant and abnormal purchases of PCR equipment in Wuhan by the People’s Liberation Army Airborne Army Hospital in May of 2019, the Wuhan Institute of Virology in November of 2019, the Wuhan University of Science and Technology in October of 2019 and the Hubei Province Districts Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from May until December of 2019.

In all, the total PCR procurement purchase price increased from 2015 to 2018, until a dramatic increase was identified in 2019: 10.1 million Yuan in 2015, 19.1 million Yuan in 2016, 29.1 million Yuan in 2017, 36.7 million Yuan in 2018 and a whopping 67.4 million Yuan in 2019.  .  .

Yet another piece of very suggestive circumstantial evidence that the SARS-CoV-2 virus was circulating much earlier than China has admitted. Previous circumstantial evidences I'm aware of: increased car traffic at Wuhan hospitals in fall 2019; an unexplained drop to zero of cell phone traffic originating in the relevant lab area in WVI. For the little it's worth as information has trickled out, my guess as to when the virus started circulating in Wuhan has been moved back from mid-November, to early October, and now into mid-late September. My guess and a Hamilton will get you a latte and change at Starchucks or Peets or Dutch Bros.

It's pathetic and reprehensible that people who want to understand the origins of the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak are forced to reason inductively from scraps of circumstantial evidence. A full telling of how it all began will likely make China look really bad (or worse), but learning lessons that might make such outbreaks less likely should trump national pride.

I know there were numerous people that got very sick in December of 2019 on the west coast of the US with symptoms very similar to Covid-19. Some of them nearly died due to serious problems with the lungs.

I have a feeling they knew the genome even before it got out, but producing that as soon as the pandemic was recognized would have been as good as an admission of guilt.

Instead, they blamed the wet market that had nothing to do with it, and bought time to cover their tracks.

Excellent point! It was known that Chinese labs in the Wuhan area had sequence the virus around 12/31/19 or 1/1/20, but the DNA sequence was not communicated outside of China till 1/11/20. If the tests ordered in the second half of 2019 were ordered well before the second half of December 2019 and if what was ordered was the completed virus-specific test rather than the materials for making tests that could be for any virus, then China knew the DNA sequence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus weeks or months earlier than currently known. Those are big "ifs", and the pattern of significant year-over-year purchase increases dating back several years suggests usage(s) predating SARS-CoV-2's existence by several years.

Gain of function research using SARS and bat coronaviruses had been going on in Wuhan since it was shut down in the US in 2014, if not longer. Two of the researchers who authored the paper in Nature in 2015 were from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
