From the hand of SpaceX, the Californian company Orbit Fab will launch into space a “Service station” to resupply the satellites in orbit. Elon Musk’s company will provide service through the Falcon 9, a reusable rocket that in this case will serve as the first impulse of Tanker-002, as the supply port is called.
The “gas station” will be launched at 36,000 kilometers of the earth’s surface, on a flight scheduled for late 2022 or early 2023. That will happen within the framework of Intuitive Machines’ IM-2 mission, which is supported by NASA.
Tanker-002 will resupply the satellites of the US Department of Defense and other geostationary. According to San Francisco-based Orbit Fab, the tanker can store fuel for 15 years. When you are in position, you can navigate to satellites that need recharging.
