Even with the predictable media fawning we’ve seen over her since Joe Biden picked her as his running mate last summer, Vice President Kamala Harris still cannot escape from some of the less than flattering coverage she’s received in her first nine months in office regarding her disastrous handling of the border crisis, the rampant stories on how she’s difficult to work with and has trouble retaining staff, and her skewed priorities.

With her polling numbers tanking and with the bad press continuing into the fall, it would appear that Harris has finally conceded that her office is in crisis mode. As a result, she made two hires last month – with one being a crisis communications expert:

    Lorraine Voles was one of two hires, along with former Obama speechwriter Adam Frankel, reported by both the Washington Post and CNN over the weekend. Both worked for the vice president during the transition, and “offered to be of assistance,” an official from the White House said. A Harris aide said Voles and Frankel began their new roles in August.

    Although the White House official didn’t use the word “crisis,” Voles is well known as a public relations and crisis communications expert. She most recently led crisis communications at George Washington University and at Fannie Mae, after serving as a strategist and adviser to Hillary Clinton’s 2006 Senate reelection race and 2008 presidential bid. In the late ‘90s, she helped Al Gore craft his message as vice president. Now she’ll help Harris with long-term planning, her policy agenda and with “organizational development” and strategic communications, according to a White House official.

    The assignment is “temporary,” the official said, although Harris’ office declined to say how long either she or Frankel planned to advise the vice president.

Vice President Kamala Harris has brought in a pair of additional advisers at a time when her role in various policy arenas including voting rights and immigration is increasing, Reuters reported.

The VP has Lorraine Voles and Adam Frankel, both of whom worked with Harris during the transition.

They are expected to focus on various areas such as long-term planning, organizational development, and strategic communications, according to a White House official who spoke on condition of anonymity and who is familiar with the new hires.

Both of the new advisers began in their roles in August, Reuters added, but are slated to serve only temporarily in the White House, according to the official. It’s not clear how long they plan to stay. ...

Kamala Harris: A Representative Figure and a Harbinger of Catastrophe

When clowns, children, and illusionists take control of something that used to be called a national destiny, we are observing a house built of Play Doh, a castle in the sand where kids play at being architects, a Potemkin village that is nothing but a Hollywood set. This is America today, and by extension, the rest of the Western world. One can play at the venerated games of policy mongering, power moves, fiscal manipulations, and personal ambition for only so long before the iron hand of reality sweeps everything away and leaves a shambles in its stead. For the world is a serious place and can be relied on to deal ruthlessly with self-interested incompetents and cognitive misfits, if not today, tomorrow for sure.

Let’s consider a thought experiment. Let us assume that Joe Biden succumbs to galloping dementia, as seems increasingly likely, and is replaced by Kamala Harris. It is common knowledge that Harris is entirely out of her depth in the office she currently occupies, a fundamentally unserious person devoid of intellectual gravity, common decency, practical concern, and knowledge of the complex geopolitical realm. Then imagine Harris as president trying to face down a fundamentally serious leader like Xi Jinping, who does not operate in a playpen, who daily threatens Taiwan with invasion, whose Belt and Road Initiative is expanding China’s commercial and military influence, and who may be preparing his citizens for war. Can there be any doubt what the sequel would be in a conflict, whether at the level of negotiation, economic reprisal, or armed stand-off, that pits an irresponsible dandiprat against a resolute and no-nonsense realist?

Of course, Kamala Harris is not only a single individual but a representative figure of a nation in decline—a nation preoccupied with internal power games, with unfriending and deplatforming, with political correctness, with critical race theory, with wind and solar, with gender studies and feminist belvedering, with Wokeness, identity politics, and pervasive make-believe (aka fake news). The consequences are real enough, but the source of the malaise is a descent into a psychological region of unstinted triviality and historical irrelevance. ...
