Battle or Slaughter? Are Iran's Upgraded Air Defenses a Threat to the U.S. Air Force?

Iran is trying its best to prepare for an attack by the U.S. Air Force.
by Sebastien Roblin

Here's What You Need to Remember: Massed together, Iran’s air defenses provide Tehran with a degree of deterrence because they increase the difficulty, expense and time required to launch air attacks on Iran—particularly from regional actors.

Iran’s military planners face an unenviable military challenge: preparing defenses against air attacks from the most formidable air forces on the planet.

The once-formidable Iranian Air Force, starved of spare parts for its 1970s-era American-built fighters, is unlikely to effectively challenge U.S. air superiority. Instead, Iran has doubled down on a diverse array of surface-to-air missile (SAMs) systems in its Air Defense Force (IRIADF) as well as the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Brainless query that belongs on one of those nightly quiz 'Show for Morons'.
Answer: Infinitely less a threat than the Persian Horde of Darius was to Alexander at Gaugamela.

Air power is being redefined now. Precision bombing has already changed the face of air warfare. Now we see the proliferation of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). "Swarming" UAV's will make conventional air defenses obsolete. But, then, as CHAMP technology (we have already fielded it) proliferates, not many things that depend on printed circuits (including computers) to fly will be able to get off the ground.

Then there is the never-ending "mine shoots further than yours" evolution. Sensor fused weapons allow air attacks from further and further distances as air defense system struggle to match the ever increasing engagement ranges... and vice versa.

It all changes from day to day.
