More on rearranging the deck chairs on the SS CNN, from the NY Post:

Many of CNN’s top talents were being moved around like chess pieces yesterday.

After new CNN honcho Jeff Zucker hired Chris Cuomo from ABC, he dismissed pundits James Carville, Mary Matalin and Bill Bennett. CNN managing editor Mark Whitaker resigned, and Anderson Cooper learned his show will no longer be repeated in prime time. Cuomo is expected to be joined by Erin Burnett on a new morning show.

Page Six reported Dec. 10 that Zucker wanted to move Burnett from her prime-time slot “to revive the cabler’s moribund morning ratings.” She is, however, contracted to prime time, and a source says, “They’ll have to throw a bucket of money at her to go to the morning.”

And Soledad O’Brien has been promised a role in prime time.

Zucker has been taking an active role in all departments of CNN, not just human resources. “He is all over everyone at the network,” said one source. “He is e-mailing everyone, around the clock, the anchors, the control rooms, he has inserted himself into everything. It is great for the network.”

Weiner & Spitzer: Shamed pol summit
 February 8, 2013

It was a summit of the previously pervy pols Wednesday night when Anthony Weiner and Eliot Spitzer crossed paths. Spies saw the duo dining at separate tables at posh David Burke Townhouse — and when they saw each other, they met in the middle of the dining room for a public bro-hug.

“Weiner and Spitzer were both having business dinners across the room from each other. But when they spotted each other, they got up and hugged,” said a gobsmacked guest at the Upper East Side eatery.

The reformed sexter and sock-wearing john then went to their neutral corners, we hear, rather than getting up to any trouble afterward. Reports say Weiner could be eyeing a comeback by running as city comptroller.

‘State’ of mind
 February 14, 2013

While Fashion Week preoccupied New York’s young and beautiful Wednesday night, power brokers gathered at Monkey Bar to watch President Obama’s State of the Union Address.

Billionaire David Koch, Google’s Eric Schmidt, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, “Steve Jobs” author Walter Isaacson, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, starchitect Richard Meier and MoveOn.org founder Eli Pariser were spotted at Celerie Kemble and Boykin Curry’s dinner for the annual oration.

A spy said James Fallows, a previous State of the Union speechwriter, moderated a conversation and “kept things from coming to blows.”

Others at the Atlantic magazine-sponsored bash included Starwood Capital’s Barry Sternlicht and Jonathan Soros.

Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius is charged with murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend.

... Pistorius, 26, kept a collection of powerful weapons at his gated, luxury South African home as a means of protection against his country's soaring crime rate, according to a British writer who had exclusive access to the Olympic sprinter. ...

According to British writer Jonathan McEvoy, who was given unprecedented access to Pistorius in a broad-ranging 2011 Daily Mail interview, the athlete held serious concerns for his personal safety, perhaps unsurprisingly given his nation's appalling record of violence. ...
Say what? I thought everything would be sunshine and lollipops once South Africa overthrew apartheid and elected Mandela. They definitely need to outlaw high-capacity magazines.

Page SixCelebrities wined and dined their sweethearts on Valentine’s Day just like everyone else. Matt Damon brought wife Luciana to a romantic date at the Gansevoort Park Hotel’s Asellina, where he had a bouquet of roses delivered during dinner.

Bruce Willis took his wife, Emma Heming, to an intimate lunch at the Atlantic Grill near Lincoln Center, where they shared oysters and other dishes.

Chelsea Clinton dined at SD26 with a gal pal, since we hear her hubby, Marc Mezvinsky, was traveling. ...

Sean Penn's promise for Haitian earthquake victims
Last Updated: 9:17 AM, March 13, 2013

The government of Haiti is giving Sean Penn $8.75 million to move some 14,000 earthquake victims off the private golf course they’ve been occupying for the past three years.

Up to 60,000 people lived there at one point in plywood shacks. The money, from the World Bank, will go to Penn’s J/P Haitian Relief Organization, which will use it to subsidize rents and build new housing in the nearby Delmas 32 neighborhood, and those uprooted by the quake are to move there by early next year.

Penn — who was just in Caracas for the funeral of his friend Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez — has spent less time in Haiti recently, reports The Post’s Richard Johnson. But his spokeswoman denied that his humanitarian efforts there were coming to an end. Penn’s charity will continue “to support the residents of Delmas 32 to demonstrate that something fundamentally different can come from a ‘slum’ in one of the poorest cities in the world,” she said.

And finally, golfing can resume at the Petionville country club.

George Soros: Ex threw lamp at me
 March 12, 2013, Page Six

Billionaire George Soros is finally fighting back in the legal wrangle with his former mistress Adriana Ferreyr — countersuing her for defamation and assault, and alleging she threw a glass lamp at him during an argument in bed.

Soros’ lawyers last night filed their response to the Brazilian bombshell’s $50 million suit in 2011, which claimed he promised her a $2 million apartment at 30 E. 85th St. but instead gave it to her love rival, his now-fiancée Tamiko Bolton.

Soros’ papers state: “Soros and Ferreyr . . . engaged in a physically intimate relationship over the course of several years. [They] continued to date other people. [At the time of the alleged assault in 2010] Soros was approximately 80 years old, and Ferreyr was approx. 27 years old.”  [Ewww]

Soros’ suit claims the fight started “while lying in bed” when “Ferreyr asked Soros about the status of the apartment . . . Soros informed her that another woman with whom he had a relationship was living in Apt. 7C, and that the other woman was very happy living there.”

“Ferreyr became enraged, picked up a nearby lamp that was made partly of glass, and knowingly, intentionally, and wilfully attempted to strike Soros with it,” his suit claims. “The lamp struck Soros’ forearm, then fell to the floor and broke . . . Soros did not hit Ferreyr . . . Ferreyr stood up and cut her foot on one or more of the shards of glass.”

Police were called and, according to the court papers, “Ferreyr made false statements to the police . . . [by claiming] ‘Soros with an open hand smacked her on the right side of face.’ ”

Soros’ assault and battery suit claims she struck him “with the lamp in an effort to harm him.” He’s also suing for defamation, claiming her statement that he “hit her in the face” was false.

Soros’ lawyer William Zabel said, “This is the first time that we have had an opportunity to respond formally to Ms. Ferreyr’s false claims and to make our own counterclaims to hold her accountable for the harm her malicious assertions have caused Mr. Soros.” Ferreyr’s lawyer William Beslow declined to comment.

Bill and Hillary Clinton, Meryl Streep take in Ann Richards show
Last Updated: 9:43 AM, March 14, 2013
Posted: 12:15 AM, March 14, 2013

Bill and Hillary Clinton were spotted this week at Holland Taylor’s new one-woman show about former Texas Gov. Ann Richards.

Also at the Vivian Beaumont the same night was former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her astronaut husband, Mark Kelly, and Oscar-winner Meryl Streep, who went backstage after the show with regular Vanity Fair photographer Brigitte Lacombe.

Said a spy, “The Clintons are both mentioned in the play, during which Richards has a few phone conversations with President Clinton.”

We’re told the ex-prez told Taylor, “We met Ann Richards in 1972, and all of those stories she tells about me are true — that’s the way it happened.”

Streep told Holland, who also wrote the play, “I’m in awe. Will you write something for me?”

Chelsea Clinton buys new $10.5 million apartment across the street from her husband's $4 million 'starter pad' bought just before they married
Couple spotted four-bedroom apartment while out walking in Manhattan
Pad boasts stunning views of Madison Square Park and a marble bathroom
They already live in luxury apartment block nearby in Flatiron District

Most young couples could only dream of buying a luxury four-bedroom apartment in the centre of Manhattan. But Chelsea Clinton, 33, and husband Marc Mezvinsky, 35, are about to swap their $4 million pad for a huge new $10.5 million one nearby.

The former first daughter and Mr Mezvinksy - who married in 2010 - are believed to have spotted the 5,000 sq ft property while out walking in the area. The apartment is located in The Whitman building next to Madison Square Park, one of the most desirable corners of Manhattan's Flatiron District.

They signed a contract for the property, which has stunning views of the park, last month, the New York Post reports.

Her father, former US President Bill Clinton and mother - ex-Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton - are understood to have run their eyes over the couple's home during a visit last week. Her famous parents even agreed to pose for photographs with tradesmen who were carrying out work there, the Post reports. The building, which is being marketed by Douglas Elliman Real Estate, has one apartment on each floor and boasts various security features, including a key operated lift.

Ms Clinton and Mr Mezvinsky's floor has four bedrooms, six and a half bathrooms, a home office and den. It also has a 252 sq ft planting terrace and a private storage unit is included with the property.  The five-story building also boasts 'top-of-the-line' amenities, including a full time doorman, residents' only gym and a refrigerated package room. The couple's apartment has a massive living area with timber floors and is flooded with natural light thanks to floor to ceiling windows.

The kitchen would be any amateur cook's dream, with a glass splash-back, a large marble worktop and state-of-the-art appliances. The spacious bedrooms in decadent New York home are equally doused in natural light with large windows overlooking the street. And the bathrooms, covered in grey marble tiles, are roomy and ultra modern.

Ms Clinton married Mr Mezvinsky in Rhinebeck, New York at a ceremony attended by many of America's most powerful figures. She was first reported to be in a relationship with Mr Mezvinsky in 2005, and became engaged to him over Thanksgiving weekend in 2009.

The couple's current flat on Fifth Avenue is far from shabby either - boasting three bedrooms, two bathrooms as well as a gym and doorman.

The 1,922 sq ft condo is in the Grand Madison - a building that has been dubbed 'the most elegant and historical building downtown.' The couple will presumably sell the $4 million home, which boasts 'unforgettable views' over downtown Manhattan including Madison Square Park, the Flatiron Building and the Clock Tower - an extraordinary domed white marble building on 25th Street at Madison.

According to a Douglas Ellisman listing, the couple's 'starter pad' has a powder room, an open chef's kitchen with beautiful bluestone countertops, oak floors, Italian marble bathrooms, huge windows and scores of other luxury finishes.

Assuming a 4 per cent interest rate and 20 per cent downpayment, Ms Clinton and Mr Mezvinsky's already-hefty mortgage payments total around $18,460 a month. But they're set to skyrocket. According to StreetEasy.com, if the pair put down a $2.1 million - or 20 per cent - deposit on their new $10.5 million home, their monthly mortgage bill will be in the region of $52,000 and closer to $60,000 if the couple handed over a 10 per cent downpayment instead.

Cooking scars
March 15, 2013

Huma Abedin drew worried glances at a fund-raiser for Terry McAuliffe, who is running for governor of Virginia, by wearing bandages on both forearms.

Abedin was joined by husband Anthony Weiner at the event, thrown by billionaire hedge-fund manager and longtime Clinton backer Marc Lasry and his wife, Cathy, at his Manhattan town house.

Sources tell us Abedin was injured during a cooking accident. She burned her arms taking something out of the oven.

Bill Clinton headlined the $12,500-a-ticket fund-raiser for McAuliffe, and then many headed to a fund-raising dinner at Doug Band’s apartment. During the event, Clinton also revealed that Lasry is the new US ambassador to France.

The neverending saga of George Soros' love life (ewww) continues:

Ugly new mess for Soros ex
Last Updated: 12:48 AM, March 18, 2013

Adriana Ferreyr, the Brazilian bombshell who’s in a legal battle with ex-lover George Soros, is about to be named in another lawsuit. Kyle Dubensky, a Columbia University theater student, plans to sue Ferreyr for $5 million because, he says, she falsely accused him of raping her on New Year’s Eve.

Sources say, aspiring actor Dubensky says he and Ferreyr had consensual sex in her Harlem apartment. But he alleges that when he tried to leave, she blocked his exit and dug her nails into his arm, drawing blood.

The source says that Dubensky then fled and got into the elevator but that a naked Ferreyr chased him and started to strangle him. When the two got downstairs, he alleges, Ferreyr told a Columbia guard she’d been sexually assaulted and the guard called the cops.

Dubensky was allegedly arrested and held by police for 18 hours, but the District Attorney’s Office did not press charges.

A letter from Columbia to Dubensky obtained by Page Six states that there was an investigation by the school’s Student Services for Gender-Based and Sexual Misconduct, but that “reasonable suspicion does not exist in this case to believe that a violation occurred.” The report does not name Ferreyr.

But a friend of Ferreyr’s told us that Dubensky “tried to have sex with [Ferreyr] without a condom” and that he “strangled and tried to hit her” in the building after she pursued him from her apartment. The source added that Ferreyr blacked out when cops arrived and woke up in a hospital and that she was the one who asked the prosecutor to release Dubensky.

When we asked Dubensky’s attorney, Michael J. Roberts, about Ferreyr’s pal’s version of the events, he called it “utter fiction.”

“This is not a case of he said, she said,” he said. “. . . The [DA] was presented with the case and refused to file a complaint. In addition, Columbia University . . . declined to pursue the case and saw no reason to investigate further.”

Ferreyr’s attorney, William Beslow, declined to comment. Ferreyr, 28, a Columbia student, is suing Soros, 81, for $50 million, charging he promised her a dream apartment, then gave it to his fiancée. She also claims Soros slapped her during a 2010 argument, but a Soros countersuit alleges that the former soap star attacked him.

Last Updated: 12:13 AM, March 19, 2013

Gossip lead singer Beth Ditto, who was arrested and charged early Saturday morning with disorderly conduct outside Bungalo Bar in Portland, Ore., displayed drunken, diva-ish behavior before getting cuffed, according to witnesses.

“When Beth and her friends came into the bar they immediately said, ‘We have a superstar out here. Can we get some service?’ ” an eyewitness told Page Six, adding, “Beth walked in and broke a glass. Bar staff cut her off and walked her out, but she just kept trying to come back in. She was screaming, ‘Don’t you know who I am? I’m Beth Ditto. Google me, bitches.’ ”

We’re told one friend of the “Standing in the Way of Control” singer took a more violent route, kicking the bartender, who was described as a “scrawny, thin guy,” in the genitals before being pulled off of him. Then, “Beth went outside and stood in the street, took off her shoes and threw her purse down and started screaming ‘O-bam-a,’ ” our source said, adding, “She kept getting louder and she wouldn’t leave — she wouldn’t listen. She was a hot mess.”

Twelve cop cars arrived on the scene and arrested the 32-year-old rocker. She’s awaiting a court date on the charge.

Redford’s report
Last Updated: 7:05 AM, March 28, 2013
NY Post
Bob Woodward’s been written off by Robert Redford, who played the Watergate sleuth in “All the President’s Men.” Speaking Tuesday at an LA screening of his latest movie, “The Company You Keep,” Redford told how he first became intrigued with Woodward and Carl Bernstein, the Washington Post reporters whose digging ultimately led to the resignation of President Nixon in 1974.

“When I read an article about them, I realized one was a Jew and one was a WASP,” Redford recalled, reports The Post’s LA correspondent Richard Johnson. “One guy was a Republican, the other was a radical; one guy was a very good writer, the other wasn’t so good. They didn’t like each other, but they had to work together. I thought, ‘Wow, that’s fascinating, that’s a great story.’ ”

The pair collaborated on three books. But Woodward has since had greater success as an author — with 13 books to his credit, compared to Bernstein’s three — though Bernstein’s always had the reputation of being the better writer.

As for Nixon, FishbowlLA blogger Richard Horgan reports that Redford instantly disliked Tricky Dicky when the future president presented the 13-year-old Redford with an athletic award in 1950.

“I didn’t know who he was,” Redford said. “He was just a guy in a suit. When Nixon handed me the award and shook my hand, it was just a vibe. I thought, ‘I don’t like this guy.’ ”

Redford’s new film also stars Shia LaBeouf, Stanley Tucci, Anna Kendrick and Susan Sarandon.

Bradley Cooper visits Boston Marathon bombing victim
 April 19, 2013

Bradley Cooper and New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman have paid a visit to gravely injured Boston Marathon bombing victim, Jeffrey Bauman, Jr..

Edelman posted a photo of their visit on Twitter with the caption: “Visited #survivor #stud #hero Jeffrey Bauman Jr. today. He was looking great and is a true inspiration. #strong”

In the photo, Bauman gives a thumbs-up and holds a football while lying in his hospital bed.

The 27-year-old Bauman lost both his legs below the knees in the horrific Boston attack. Bauman was photographed being wheeled from the scene in a now-iconic photo captured by AP. Despite his injuries, he provided evidence while still in intensive care.

“Visited #survivor #stud #hero Jeffrey Bauman Jr. today. He was looking great and is a true inspiration. #strong” Bauman awoke in the hospital and asked for a pen and paper on which he wrote: “bag, saw the guy, looked right at me,” his brother, Chris, said.

Bauman then gave the feds a full description of the man he saw drop a bag at this feet. He said the man wore a cap and sunglasses, a description similar to the image of the FBI’s Suspect No. 1, his brother said.

The “Silver Linings Playbook” actor is in Boston filming director David O. Russell’s "American Hustle,” with Jennifer Lawrence and Christian Bale.

Bill Clinton says Chelsea changed his view on gay marriage
Last Updated: 11:23 AM, April 22, 2013
Posted: 11:21 AM, April 22, 2013

Bill Clinton was honored at the GLAAD Media Awards for his gay rights advocacy as well as his endorsement for same-sex marriage on Saturday. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the former President credits his daughter for changing his mind.

The former President said during his acceptance speech that his daughter "has had a profound impact on the way I see the world. It's sort of humbling when you get to be my age when your child knows more than you do about everything."

"Chelsea and her gay friends have modeled to me how we should all treat each other regardless of our sexual orientation or any other artificial difference that divides us,” said the honoree. “Many of them come and join us every Thanksgiving for a meal. I have grown very attached to them."

"And over the years, I was forced to confront the fact that people who oppose equal rights for gays in the marriage sphere are basically acting out of concern for their own identity, not out of respect for anyone else."

Clinton’s view on marriage equality changed substantially over the years. During his presidency, he signed the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which denies federal benefits to same-sex couples.

"I want to keep working on this until not only is DOMA no longer the law of the land, but until all people — no matter where they live — can marry the people they love," Clinton told the crowd.

He has since called his approval of that law one of his biggest mistakes as President and has urged the Supreme Court to strike the law down.

"You are the agents of change. I got this award tonight, because I was the object of your affection - or not, as the case may be,” he added. “My daughter led me to support the marriage equality law in New York when we were debating it, and to oppose North Carolina's denial of marriage equality, and to do all these other things. So I want to thank her too. Thank you, GLAAD. Thank you, Chelsea."

"Whenever we turn away from treating someone with the dignity and honor and the respect that we would like accorded to ourselves, we have to face the fact it's about us," Clinton concluded.
