American Airlines Turns Plane Around, Kicks Two-Year-Old Off Flight For Not Wearing Mask During Asthma Attack

American Airlines turned around a flight and kicked off a two-year-old asthmatic boy and his mother and grandmother, because the child could not wear a face mask properly when he had an asthma attack.

Amanda Pendarvis, her two-year-old son Waylon, and her mother, were allegedly kicked off AA Flight 1284 on Monday, because Waylon, who has asthma, was having an attack and could not maintain the mask on his face properly as a result. Pendarvis described it on Instagram as the “most humiliating/traumatizing experience,” because of the actions of the flight attendant, who she named as Carl and described as “truly evil [and] power tripping.”

In upsetting footage posted to Instagram by Pendarvis, her son can be seen crying and not wanting to wear the mask due to his inability to breathe. Despite allegedly showing the American Airlines attendant his negative COVID test, and informing him that he has asthma, the flight attendant “did not care” that Waylon was “literally hyperventilating.” As a result, the plane was turned around and the family were escorted off by police officers. “I was not refusing a mask, nor did I even say I wouldn’t try to keep a mask on my son,” Pendarvis confirmed. ...

I was scared those were my neighbors....  They left for Estonia on Sunday with their 2 yr. old daughter.  I can't imagine trying to keep a mask on a 2 yr old....INSANITY!

Common sense has been completely discarded. A mask on an asthmatic child is suffocating.

From AA's own website:
Quote
U.S. federal law requires that you wear a face covering at all times while indoors at the airport and on board your flight If you refuse to wear one, you may be denied boarding and future travel on American. You may also face penalties under federal law.

These rules do not apply to children under 2, or if you have a disability that prevents you from wearing a face covering and meet the exemption requirements.  ...

You can briefly lower or remove your face covering while actively eating, drinking or taking oral medication, but it must be worn between bites and sips. ...
It would appear they violated their own guidelines in this case. And, perhaps I'm missing something, but when did this become "U.S. federal law"? Did Congress pass a mask law for airlines? If not, there's no such thing as a federal face covering law.

Nonsense like this is why I don't care if I ever again take a flight.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.

The weasel words are "under 2". A two-year old does not qualify because they are not "under" 2.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I have no doubt the airlines who currently are harassing people for not putting a mask on a baby or for daring to slip it down to take a drink of water will be richly rewarded by this administration and the Democrats in Congress. Another bailout, anyone? I will not fly as long as there are mask and/or vaccine mandates. Eff 'em. FJB.

I remember getting on the plane with a 3" folding knife in a sheath on my belt, going to the back, where I could smoke a cigarette, and enjoying my flight.

Now you have to wear a mask, the rest is forbidden.

Isn't it odd how freedom fades away, like sunlight, and no one seems to notice until it is really dark out.

But those who warn of the coming sunset are ridiculed at noon.

Get ready for turbulence ahead.

Yesterday American Airlines had almost 300 of its flights canceled, almost 10 percent of its total schedule, far more than ANY other carrier in the United States (Southwest remains second), and another 673 delayed. It is no doubt purely coincidental that I have heard from multiple pilots at American this week and that its pilot forums are filled with anger at the vaccine mandate.

It is also no doubt a coincidence that Delta - which has had far fewer problems than the other big carriers - has been the only one NOT to impose a vaccine mandate. ... Alex Berenson

How harmful is it to give people the false security of a cloth mask, surgical mask or even N-95 mask? Isn't that like lying?

Me, too. I loved it in the days when a guy could carry a knife on board, sit in the back and have a smoke...and there were actual in flight meals instead of a tablespoon of pretzels...
