White House asks Congress for billions in emergency funds for Afghan resettlement

American Military News  September 08, 2021 Joey Garrison - USA Today

The White House is seeking billions in emergency funds this month from Congress to help resettle tens of thousands of Afghan immigrants into the U.S.

In a spending request Tuesday outlining “urgent needs,” President Joe Biden’s administration asked Congress to authorize $6.4 billion for Afghan resettlement efforts one week after the U.S. ended its military effort in Afghanistan. The U.S. is currently working to resettle Afghan allies evacuated from the war-torn country.

White House officials also requested “at least $10 billion” for recovery efforts from Hurricane Ida, and an additional $14 billion for other recent natural disasters — including Hurricanes Laura and Delta from last year.

Shalanda Young, acting director of the Office of Management and Budget, made the budget request Tuesday, less than four weeks before the current 2021 fiscal year ends Sept. 30. Together the requests total more than $30 billion.

Nearly $100,000 per refugee, including kids.

Why are we paying for resettlement efforts in other countries?

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

Duh.

Blinken still can't figure out why the Sun persists in rising in the East each day, nor why it continues to set in the West.

Taliban Letting Big Group of Americans Leave Today but There Are Questions About Move
By Nick Arama | Sep 09, 2021 7:45 AM ET

The Taliban have agreed to let “200 Americans and other civilians” leave Afghanistan from the Kabul Airport on Thursday on a flight to Qatar, according to a U.S. official.

The U.S. official said that this came after pressure from US Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad who had been appointed a special envoy by former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo but kept on by current Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The official did not clarify if this group of people included the people being kept from leaving by the Taliban in Mazar-i-Sharif. That group involved about 1,000 people including at least 142 Americans. One would have to think it’s from that group but then it’s not clear why they wouldn’t just allow them to fly out of Mazar-i-Sharif if they’re letting the planes that are there leave. We’ll have to see as more information emerges today.

There were at least six planes waiting to leave out of Mazar-i-Sharif for over a week. Initially, the planes were held up by the stupidity of the State Department refusing to clear people fast enough, to the great dismay of the private organizations trying to get the people out and to safety. Then the Taliban stepped in and prevented them from leaving, amid reports that the Taliban was asking for things from the United States in exchange.

Taliban AGREE to let 200 Americans and foreigners working in Afghanistan fly out of Kabul Airport on charter planes Thursday after rescuers claimed State Department was frustrating evacuation efforts

Taliban authorities have agreed to let 200 Americans and foreigners leave
New charter flights out of Kabul will ferry the evacuees, a US official said
It follows a standoff with charter plans stuck on the tarmac at Mazar-i-Sharif
Organizers claimed State Department was not doing enough to facilitate flights
But Secretary of State Blinken blamed the standoff on the Taliban
It's unclear if the flights out of Kabul will carry those stranded in Mazar-i-Sharif
