The U.S. State Department announced on Friday it will restrict the importation of certain Russian firearms and ammunition as shortages continue impacting Americans nationwide. The sanctions are expected to take effect on September 7, according to a State Department press release.

The department said the sanctions on Russian firearms and ammunition is due to the Russian Federation’s “use of a ‘Novichok’ nerve agent in the August 2020 poisoning of Russian opposition figure Aleksey Navalny.”

“Restrictions on the permanent imports of certain Russian firearms. New and pending permit applications for the permanent importation of firearms and ammunition manufactured or located in Russia will be subject to a policy of denial,” the department stated.

According to the National Association for Gun Rights, the sanctions will make the popular 7.62×39 rifle round “used by sportsmen, hunters, and Second Amendment enthusiasts alike…impossible to find.” Russian-made brands like Wolf, Bear, Tulammo, Barnaul, and Red Army Standard, which are popular imported ammo options for American gunowners, are likely to be among those impacted by the restrictions.

While there are still military surplus ammo to be imported from other European countries this ban will affect far more than 7.62X39, which might lead people to think so what it's only about nuts with AK's and SKS's. The fact is Russia was a major producer of inexpensive rounds in many calibers .22, .380, 9mm up to 7.62x51NATO. Other than Russia there really aren't many manufacturers of some of these calibers. Just more democrat whittling at the 2nd, Oh Okay you can have your gun but good luck finding anything to shoot in it.

That is most likely what the move is really about.

I  was surprised how much Russian 6.5 Grendel ammo used to be so cheaply available. I didn't realize that it was based on the .220 Russian, which was based on the 7.62 x 39.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Let me get this straight.

We can't have new Russian guns and ammo,

But the Taliban gets tons of US guns (and ammo)....

That we can't even own with a Class III license (because it was made after 1986).

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
