I'm not overlooking anything.  They could have said NO! It was their choice to be there. I know guys that went to Iraq in the middle of the war at the government's request. They all made it back and made A LOT of money for it. If they would have got killed it would have been their own fault. The American civilians in Afghanistan are there by their own choice. Their greed, irresponsibility, stupidity and bad choices might have cost them their lives and the lives of their families if they were really that stupid. NO is a very powerful word. The government can't order civilians to do anything and if they volunteered, the again, it was their CHOICE.

That is not BS theory and I have plenty of practical knowledge on the subject. I have many times told high ranking NCOs and officers to EFF OFF! I was a civilian and they were not my supervisor. Military are a different story. They have no choice. Civilians do have a choice. Civilians can say NO. Even military to a certain extent can say NO and leave the military. If a civilian is there it was their choice to be there. Even if they are a civilian employee of the government it is still their choice and they can say NO and that is not BS!
