True story. Never has there been such a large group of unfunny men on TV at 11PM EST in the history of Late Night Shows. Well since Tom Snyder anyway
Tom never intended to be funny... and he still told better jokes to his crew on
The Late Late Show than most of the hosts intentionally try to be today.
It's sad. I've tried watching them. Jimmy Fallon is proof that friends in high places (cough, Lorne Michaels) trumps talent, and I know he's trying, but he's just not funny—
The Tonight Show has suffered immensely under his hosting, and any other host would've been fired. Jimmy Kimmel is just smug. Colbert has a few flashes of good material but a lot of times he comes off as just plain awkward... and I also see Conan O'Brien, the king of "let's take something we know is funny, try to take it too far by overexaggerating it and make it edgy," recently quit the late-night biz. Lilly Singh (also recently quit) was total cringe.
Then you have the foreigners like John Oliver, Trevor Noah and Samantha Bee who think it's hip to come to America and lecture us on how awful our country is and how stupid we are.
So Gutfeld is pretty much the best by default at this point.
