America’s Automotive Future
While moving to a zero emissions industrial economy may or may not prevent a global environmental catastrophe, making such a move prematurely guarantees a global economic catastrophe.
By Edward Ring
August 9, 2021

Joe Biden, emulating trendsetting blue state governors like California’s Gavin Newsom and New York’s Andrew Cuomo, recently has declared that by 2030, new car sales must be 50 percent zero-emission electric vehicles.

The problem with this decree is that it violates the proverbial rule against the government picking winners and losers. It’s one thing for the government to subsidize energy research, or, for that matter, any pure research. Libertarian purists might object to that, but sometimes these public-private research partnerships can accelerate innovation and help keep American manufacturers competitive. It’s quite another thing, however, for the government to restrict what sort of technology powers our vehicles, because there’s no way we can predict how technology will evolve between now and 2030.

Nobody reading this is gonna like it,but the future is only electric cars will be manufactured,and the ONLY people who will be given them will be people with Party ID cards who are either "Heroes of the North American Trade Zone",or plant managers,local party reps,and their relatives.

And the po-po of course,but they won't be allowed to take them home unless they are Party Leaders who suprvise the Po-Po.

Everybody else will ride the electric bus to work,and then bicycle or walk to go shopping or visit with friends.

Almost all of their friends will live in the same partmint block they do because they all work for the same company and don't know anyone else.

If we criminalize 1990 Ford Escort Hatchbacks, only criminals will be driving 1990 Ford Escort Hatchbacks.

@DefiantMassRINO

HEY! Watch it!

I have one in my shop I bought a while back for 75 bucks that only needs a timing belt. 95k miles,no rust,no dents,perfect interior,and it has ac and auto trans.

Mine is a tudor hatchback like that one,and rides and drives a LOT better than you might suspect. Also,I can lay the rear seat back down flat,and it has a surprising amount of room to haul stuff.

GREAT car that got great gas mileage and ran perfectly before I took it apart to replace the timing belt. I also love it because I can park it anywhere and know it will still be there when I get back because it's not valuable enough to steal. After all,who are you going to sell a 20 year old Escort,or Escort parts to?
