 New York Is A Cautionary Tale About The Dangers of Progressivism

Seth Barron's book, 'The Last Days of New York,' paints a damning portrait of how Bill de Blasio's left-wing politics exacerbated civic corruption and crime.

Perhaps the best argument a conservative can make when defending his political views is to simply point to the failings of any blue state. By any metric, these states generally do poorly, which has led to residents in these states migrating to red states like Texas and Florida.

Seeing that no progressive leader campaigns on the promise to limit people’s freedoms, bankrupt the government, and fail to deliver basic social services, it’s not altogether clear why this seems to constantly happen when leftists are in charge. It has something to do with progressivism, sure, but it becomes necessary to delve into details for a comprehensive explanation.

Fortunately, Seth Barron gives this explanation with his new book, The Last Days of New York: A Reporter’s True Tale. With great detail and a wry sense of humor, he charts the downward course of New York City from a world-class city that could thrive even after suffering one of the worst terrorist acts in history to a dysfunctional concrete jungle that is quickly deteriorating into a crime-infested ghost town.

The protagonist of this story is Mayor Bill de Blasio, an embodiment of mediocrity and hypocrisy. Barron notes that “Bill de Blasio was flower, fruit, and fragrance” of New York’s progressive political culture.

Nonsensical malarkey from another journo running off at the mouth.
The Republican Party, since Freemont ran in 1856, was the errand boy for the Mercantile Class
of the Northern unban centers, which later morphed into the Industrial Class, post-Civil War;
while never promoting sentiments integral to Principled Conservatism.
The latter was expressed in the ideas/thoughts of several of our Founders, in particular Madison
and Monroe, yet these had evaporated by the Presidency of Andrew Jackson.
What our scribblers remain blissfully ignorant of, is that Principled Conservatism is a body of
eternal precepts governing human conduct involving attitudes, behaviors, impulses and sentiments,
having trivial to do w/economics, politics or religion, each of which it predates by millennia.
Ancients such as Sargon, Hammurabi, the Greeks, embraced these precepts; later the likes
of Edmund Burke and David Hume, bringing us to Babbitt, Eliot and Russell Kirk in our time.
One of the core reasons we are in our morass is because our "messengers" simply have no message,
as they are little more than ax-grinders repeating economic and political cliché's irrelevant to reality,
while ceaselessly asserting that fat wallets are the salvation/solution of our demise.
