CDC: Studies Propelling Shift in Mask Guidance Not Available

The studies that prompted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to change their mask guidance for vaccinated persons are not available, a spokesperson told The Epoch Times on Wednesday.

“They have not been published yet,” the spokesperson said.

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the CDC’s director, told reporters on July 27 that she had seen “new scientific data from recent outbreak investigations” indicating the Delta variant of the virus that causes COVID-19 was presenting more uniquely than other strains.

“Information from several states and other countries indicates that in rare occasions, some vaccinated people infected with the Delta variants after vaccination may be contagious and spread the virus to others,” she said.

That motivated officials at the agency to change masking guidance.  .  .

Good question. The CDC reversed its position yesterday from three weeks earlier on masks, claiming that their data on the Delta variant of COVID-19 drove the decision. The Washington Post points out, though, that the CDC didn’t publish any supporting data, and that “outside scientists” are asking why:

    Some outside scientists have their own message: Show us the data.

    “They’re making a claim that people with delta who are vaccinated and unvaccinated have similar levels of viral load, but nobody knows what that means,” said Gregg Gonsalves, an associate professor at the Yale School of Public Health. “It’s meaningless unless we see the data.”

WaPo isn't really interested in seeing any data, they just know instinctively the CDC is killing their goose that lays the golden eggs.  Asking for "data" is not a sign of trying to cozy up to conservatives, but rather a way to rehabilitate their unraveling COVID hoax.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has cited only “unpublished data” as the rationale for its surrender to the Chinese coronavirus, mandating vaccinated people wear masks.

The federal health agency has failed to present the data behind its updated mask guidance, which requires vaccinated individuals to wear a mask indoors in public in areas of “substantial or high transmission.” Instead, it has cited “CDC COVID-19 [Chinese coronavirus] Response Team, unpublished data, 2021,” a vague reference leaving many asking questions.

“While the CDC issued their guidance yesterday at about 3 p.m., they have not yet released their scientific reports on the data that underlies their recommendation,” New York City Health and Hospitals President and CEO Mitchell Katz said Wednesday, emphasizing the need to review the data.

“I think we owe it to New Yorkers to very carefully, as you say, review that information and understand its implications,” Katz added. “Our focus has to be on getting people vaccinated.”

There is also zero data on the efficacy of masks on reducing the spread of the variant, let alone mask mandates—and the evidence for the efficacy of mask mandates on reducing the spread of previous variants is incredibly weak.
