CDC to Reverse Course, Recommend Masks for Vaccinated People

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is set on Tuesday to recommend masks for vaccinated people indoors under certain circumstances.

“As recently as last week, an agency spokesman said that the C.D.C. had no plans to change its guidance, unless there were a significant change in the science,” the New York Times reported.

“Federal officials met on Sunday night to review new evidence that may have prompted the reversal,” the report continued. “The new guidance would mark a sharp turnabout from the agency’s position since May that vaccinated people do not need to wear masks in most indoor spaces.”

“It’s a dynamic situation. It’s a work in progress, it evolves like in so many other areas of the pandemic,” Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday. “You’ve got to look at the data.”

Already some areas of America are bringing back coronavirus protocols, such as Palm Beach, Florida, which has mandated masks and social distancing measures even though 100 percent of residents ages 16 and older are vaccinated.

Sixty percent of Americans have either been "fully" vaccinated or have survived infection from the virus.  That constitutes 'herd immunity' as defined last year by the CDC.  The government's job is done here.  They helped develop a vaccine and then made that vaccine available to everyone.  Their role in this is complete.

And only about 150 of the more than 18,000 COVID-19 deaths in May were in fully vaccinated people. That translates to about 0.8%, or five deaths per day on average.

The AP analyzed figures provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC itself has not estimated what percentage of hospitalizations and deaths are in fully vaccinated people, citing limitations in the data....

Seems in what I am reading is that a tiny tiny sliver of the vaccinated are being enumerated as breakthrough cases, and only a tiny tiny sliver of those are getting ill.

Still no link to the data itself, but it does shed some light on the way the statistics are interpreted.  Unless a State specifically indicates that a hospitalized or deceased patient was "fully" vaccinated, that person is assumed to be unvaccinated, regardless if they were actually vaccinated.  This is no different from the Camel ads back in the 60s where they sent inquiries to doctors asking if they smoked any cigarette other than Camels.  With only a small fraction of doctors saying that they smoked something other than Camels, RJ Reynolds counted all the non-responses as Camel smokers.

They are saying the opposite of that. Fauci is saying vaccinated people are just as much a threat as unvaccinated.
They are making no sense at all. With COVID, everything is twisted upside-down and backwards.
