What will it take to get young people to appreciate America?
By Gary S. Goldman

I often wonder the difference between patriotism and an unconditional love for your country, but how did we go from living and appreciating the world’s foremost economic and military powerhouse to the derisive rioting, violent protests and the obliviousness to what America has once stood for? Has our educational system failed? How are young Americans being raised to hate the very country they live and can thrive in? Does it prove a failed educational system?

Unfortunately, a large portion of our young generation does not believe the United States of America is a nation worth loving or feeling pride towards. How did we go from standing up to the Pledge of Allegiance, teaching our children respect for the flag, to allowing Americans to turn their backs on the very flag that represents every one of our states, the hardiness and valor of our nation, the purity and innocence of its people, the vigilance, perseverance, and justice for its citizens?

Meanwhile, the recent change of power in Cuba has resulted in the much-oppressed Cuban citizens to take to the streets across their nation to fight for simple human rights of basic goods, services, and medical care; rights that Americans are somehow taking for granted! How would Americans feel if they had to stand in line for blocks long lines to purchase anything they may need at the store? How would Americans feel if their line of communication were somehow disrupted by their own nation in trying to keep them from speaking? And that's not the half of it, the marchers in Havana, after all, were shouting "freedom!" Have Americans forgotten to be grateful for their freedom?

I live in a country now where the woke enviro-whackos prosecute us, our beliefs, our heritage, and our way of life.

Whats not to appreciate? /s
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

A great many young people are supreme ignoramuses thanks, ironically,  in large part to the amount of electronic gizmos they have to play with.
In the old days to amuse yourself many times you had to work at it. That includes the simple task of reading a book. I used to read the WB encyclopedia to amuse myself when the winter weather was so cold it was dangerous to go outside.
I wonder how many kids do that anymore or actually read a book?
Today's kids know things, they just don't know many real important things related to understanding the great country they live in.

That is an excellent post. I was raised in the 50's/60's. A completely different world. I think most people went thru a rebellious stage that included hating/criticizing the country (parents, etc.). I also believe that was a part of wanting to be part "of the crowd" and wasn't part of a taught ideology. So we grew out of it and realized we were goofy. I don't know that today's kids will. It scares and saddens me.

Of course I also live in a rural area...so maybe the kids are taught differently. Maybe all is not lost.

I believe it begins in the home, unfortunately, many parents today are themselves products of the liberal education system.

The liberal agenda has been entrenched in our society, especially our schools and until that changes, we won't see the patriotism that we grew up with.

I wish I had something positive to add to this scenario, but there are few people working towards this change.
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Mr. Goldman asks:
"What will it take to get young people to appreciate America?"

Considering the level of indoctrination they've been exposed to since they were toddlers, it's going to take "a lifetime lived under communism" in order for them to finally wake up and to comprehend that they were deceived by the left.

Then... and only then... will they have learned.

Have them spend a year living in Cuba, Venezuela, Syria, Uzbekistan, North Korea, etc.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

I'm thinking that it will take nothing less that the total dismantling and then rebuilding of our
- primary education systems
- university systems
- media establishment
- popular entertainment

And after at least two generations, things may begin to "get back, get back, get back to where they once belonged..."

Step one: Take away their cell phones, and beat the phones with a big hammer until there is nothing left but a pile of plastic dust.

Step two: Slap the piss out of them to make them stop crying about their cell phones, and make them understand that it is PEOPLE that are important, and cell phones nothing more than a distraction for the simple-minded.

After that, pretty much everything else should fall in line.
