The United States Air Force is sending a couple dozen F-22 stealth fighters off to the western Pacific to annoy the heck out of Xi Jinping. The idea is to show the Chinese Communist Party that we can drop more of those fancy fighters in at practically a moment’s notice than they have in their entire arsenal.
A U.S. show of force
If you thought that the Pentagon was sending a lot more F-22 stealth fighters to Guam than usual for this year’s western Pacific exercise, you were right. The Air Force ordered “an unusually large deployment of the powerful jets that analysts say sends a strong message to a possible adversary in China.”
Pacific command officials confirm that “approximately 25 F-22 Raptors from the Hawaii Air National Guard and from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, will deploy this month to Guam and Tinian islands for Operation Pacific Iron 2021.”
