BREAKING: At Least Three Texas Democrats Who Fled State Without Masks Test Positive for COVID

A number of Texas Democrats who fled the state rather than vote on an election integrity bill have tested positive for COVID-19, the Austin Statesman reported on Saturday.

“Three Texas House Democrats have tested positive for COVID-19 from Washington, D.C., according to Texas House Democratic Caucus leadership,” the Statesman reported.

“They’re among nearly 60 lawmakers who fled the state Monday to break quorum in the House, part of an effort to block the passage of a GOP-led elections bill. Most members are staying in the same hotel,” the report noted.

“One member found out about their positive test result late Friday evening, but they do not have symptoms, caucus officials said,” the Statesman continued. “All House lawmakers were alerted and received a rapid test immediately following the member’s positive result.”

“Two additional members tested positive in a rapid test on Saturday morning and one has mild symptoms,” the causus said, according to the report. “The three who have tested positive on the rapid tests will receive a PCR coronavirus test, a more sensitive and accurate version of a COVID-19 test. The positive members will isolate for 10 days.”

On Monday, 60 left-wing lawmakers fled Texas in order to block a 'restrictive' voting reform bill proposed by conservatives. They chartered two flights to Washington, DC that purportedly cost a whopping $100,000.

The group has since been staying at a plush hotel in the nation's capital and schmoozing with many high-powered politicians. They even met with Vice President Kamala Harris during a closed-door meeting on Tuesday.

Several of the Texas Democrats have publicly endorsed wearing face masks, but it seems they are not so enthused about using the coverings in private.

Vice President Harris and her staff do not have to quarantine or be tested for COVID-19 because they were not in close contact during meeting with Democratic Texas lawmakers who later tested positive for the virus, according to her spokesperson.

“On Tuesday, July 13th, Vice President Harris met with members of the Texas state legislature who are temporarily in Washington, D.C.," Symone Sanders, Harris’s senior adviser and chief spokesperson, said in a statement late Saturday.

"Earlier today, it was brought to our attention that two of the members at that meeting tested positive for COVID-19. Based on the timeline of these positive tests, it was determined the Vice President and her staff present at the meeting were not at risk of exposure because they were not in close contact with those who tested positive and therefore do not need to be tested or quarantined. The Vice President and her staff are fully vaccinated,” Sanders added.

Texas Representative Accuses Democrats Of Looking For Excuse To Not Come Back

Three Texas Democrats tested positive for COVID-19 this weekend, but not everyone believes them.

On Texas Republican lawmaker, State. Rep. Briscoe Cain, said that he is not convinced that the Democrats are not using this as a gimmick to avoid coming back to the state, Fox News reported.

“It’s disingenuous, they’re lying and they are playing games with the people of Texas,” the Republican and chair of the House Elections Committee said.

“Anyone that reads it,” he said in reference to the voting rights bill that caused the Democrats to escape to Washington, DC to avoid the bill being passed, “realizes it doesn’t criminalize mistakes, it expands voting access, it expands hours, and protects our elections. That’s it.”
