OH no, the fountain drink is the highest profit item on the menu, that's why they can bullshit people into thinking they are getting a deal with $1 drinks. Even at a dollar they are making probably 75 cents profit, it was higher in my olden days. So a QSR might con people into a buy a burger and fries(another high profit item) and get a free drink, an offer you will se far and wide but ain't nuthin free.

Another thing you can bank on with these higher wages is a lower level of service and cleanliness because there are only two ways to pay for those wages and benefits, since the good old days of increased traffic are long gone with all the competition, and that's as you noted higher prices and lower staffing. Lower staffing will guaranty two results high turnover do to excessive work load and with that turnover even worse service and cleanliness which will be the straw that broke the higher menu price camels back. Ask me how I know.
