Biden administration Surgeon General Vivek H. Murthy issued an advisory on Thursday that urged big tech companies to "impose clear consequences for accounts that repeatedly violate platform policies."
His calls come in tandem with a pamphlet he penned, released by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), entitled "Confronting Health Misinformation."
Murthy writes that "Health misinformation is a serious threat to public health. It can cause confusion, sow mistrust, harm people’s health, and undermine public health efforts. Limiting the spread of health misinformation is
a moral and civic imperative that will require a whole-of-society effort."
