8,400 Canadians died while waiting for healthcare

Canada’s healthcare system is one in which a patient can die from literally having to wait.

That is the warning from a new study from SecondStreet.org, an upstart think tank based in Regina, the capital city in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan.

“Our healthcare system is largely stuck in the 1970s,” said Colin Craig, president of SecondStreet.org. “It is heavily controlled by government, and as a result, patients are suffering.”

Under Canada’s system, hospitals and clinics receive a fixed amount called a “global budget” from the government to spend on healthcare every year. To keep funds from running out, hospitals often limit the number of procedures they perform, resulting in patients ending up on waiting lists for treatment. ...

The results were eye-opening. Over 8,400 Canadians died while on a waiting list for treatment, including 2,256 who died waiting for surgery and 6,202 who died waiting for a diagnostic test or appointment with a specialist.

The numbers are likely an undercount ...

But hey, nationalized health care is just so much better than the alternative!!!

Especially when, for a few thousand, you can just slip across the border into the U.S. when you need real medical care.

The entire Province of Saskatchewan has a total of three MRI machines.  The failure of the system is that there is no incentive to purchase more.  The patient has given up his say since his/her Canadian dollars no longer decide what to buy.

There are seven MRI scanners in five Saskatchewan hospitals.

That's an improvement.  Not too long ago, they had two in Regina and one in Saskatoon.  Zero in Moose Jaw.  But even with seven, there are more MRI machines within 10 miles of my house than there are in the entire province.

Sure, but a better comparison would be Montana for Saskatchewan.  And they have at least 20.

That's a good point.  I was just looking up the same thing for some of the western states.   Tho' more comparable, the numbers still don't reflect well on the Canadian health "care" system.

States that border Canuckia see a fair number of health tourists, Canuckians who avoid wait lists by having tests and procedures done here on their own dime. This has been going on for years. Covid probably exacerbated wait list deadliness through restrictions on border crossings.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Speaking of MRI machines, I could probably walk to a hospital that has at least one in about 5 minutes. I would be utterly unsurprised if there are 20 or more within a 10 mile radius of my home. Though the population of the Province of Saskatchewan is about the same as San Jose (which is bigger than a 10-mile circle around my home).

I also don't find CAT scans more available at a veterinarian than at a hospital, ****drummer .

If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

There's a reason many Canadian retirees winter in Florida - not only warmer weather, but access to alternate healthcare.

Like almost all socialized medicine money talks, Cuba has great healthcare if you are of the elite. Canadians also have the best healthcare money can buy...........in America, if they don't want to risk expiring before the wait time is over in Canuckistan.

Apparently, not even this is true.  For years on end, Jimmy Carter would boast about how superior Cuban health care is compared to the US.  Yet every time he needs medical care himself, not once has he traveled to Cuba to get that care.
