Texas Democrats plan walkout to block election overhaul bill
By Reid Wilson - 07/12/21 01:09 PM EDT

Texas Democratic lawmakers plan to leave the state to deny Republicans the quorum they need to convene a special legislative session, a dramatic move that is likely to set up weeks of political brinkmanship.

A majority of state House members plan to fly to Washington, D.C., on chartered flights, according to two sources with knowledge of their plans who asked for anonymity to discuss the exodus.

The sources confirmed representatives would head to D.C., first reported by NBC News.

The high-stakes gambit will grind legislative action to a halt, just as Republicans had planned to bring up a sweeping measure to overhaul elections procedures, among other controversial measures high on the list of priorities backed by Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R).

“They’re flying out,” said one top Texas Democratic strategist.

Texas rules require two-thirds of lawmakers to answer a quorum call. Those who are absent can be detained by the state Department of Public Safety and returned to the Capitol in Austin.

Arrest them and force them to remain in the statehouse.

They should not be able to thwart the will of the people of the State of Texas by intentionally disregarding their duties as representatives.

This happened over drawing new district lines after a census.  Democrats left, some went to New Mexico, some to Oklahoma.  Governor, think it was Perry then, could have been Bush, threatened to send Texas Rangers to get them, so they came back.

Maybe Gov. Abbott will put his wheelchair up on a horse, and lead the Texas Rangers to D.C. to get Dems back.

Only one came back, John Whitmire, after about 6 weeks.  But one was enough.

Do they have to have fled first, and refused to come back, or can they be preemptively arrested now, before they actually take flight?

It's not a matter of thought crimes or minority report.  If someone is threatening to absent themselves from the jurisdiction, under circumstances where their presence is necessary, then they can often be arrested and held in order to make sure they don't abscond.

agreed.

The heads of both bodies could require affirmation from each member whether they will be present during the special session.

If they say no, then detain them.  If they say yes and flee, then send the Rangers to drag their asses back to Texas and face prosecution for lying.

Post Texas Rangers on major border highways and in major airports. Or maybe just highways out of Austin and local airports.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

Ummmm....
The governor should assign a team of Texas Rangers to EVERY DEMOCRAT, for the purpose of... "protecting" them until the special session is concluded.

We have a saying in Texas - "One Riot - One Ranger"

I have written this before sometime in the past; if you have read it, just skip it.
Husband was Bill Shaw, Republican Chairman of San Jacinto County.  This was during time when Bill Clinton was President.

Went to Texas State Republican Convention which was in Houston Convention Center that year.  Bill had two artificial hips so we always had a motor wheelchair for him.  One day I walked, he rolled, to lunch from the Center and after lunch, walked/rolled back through the park in front of the center.  One goes across the street and go in front doors of center.  I went ahead of him to go to ladies room and meet him back at our seats.  When I came out of ladies room, there was a crowd of people looking out the front doors where something was happening in the park right there across the street.

The front doors were locked.  I looked across the street and there was Bill in the middle of a bunch of Black Panthers with black hoods on their face and all had shotguns.  There was Bill in his wheelchair with his red cap that said, "Jail to the Chief" (as I said, Clinton was president).  He was shaking his finger at those men and who knows what he was saying.??

Right there in front of the center, there were city cops standing there.  Found out later, City Mayor told cops not to bother the Black Panthers.  The press were there taking pictures.  THEN, one Ranger, tan uniform, with his Ranger hat on, not a huge man, walked across the street, told the Black Panthers to get out of Bill's way so he could cross the street, and told them to leave.  The Black Panthers gathered their stuff and left.
                                                         One Riot - One Ranger

This was on all TV city news channels that evening.  Bill was their hero.  He was everyone's hero in the Republican Party before and after that day.

I wonder how much Pelosi and the DNC shelled out for the chartered jets that flew those cowards to DC?

They are a disgrace to the state!
