JD Vance says he regrets past criticism of Trump

Ohio Republican Senate candidate J.D. Vance said on Monday that he regrets posting since-deleted tweets critical of former President Trump.

“Like a lot of people, I criticized Trump back in 2016,” Vance told Fox News's Alicia Acuna during a Monday interview. “And I ask folks not to judge me based on what I said in 2016, because I’ve been very open that I did say those critical things and I regret them, and I regret being wrong about the guy. I think he was a good president, I think he made a lot of good decisions for people, and I think he took a lot of flak.”

“I think … the most important thing is not what you said five years ago, but whether you’re willing to stand up and take the heat and take the hits for actually defending the interests of the American people,” Vance said.

Vance also said in the clip shared by Mediaite that he met with Trump recently at his Mar-a-Lago resort.  .  .

Maybe, but almost all of us considered Trump to be an "opportunist" when he first ran for President.  Like most of us, Vance became convinced Trump was not a phony because of his performance after 1/20/2017.

Skeptic until proven otherwise.  I see nothing wrong there.

That's the correct approach.  I'm waiting to see how he's been the past 3-4 years or so.  If this is a recent revelation on his part, screw him.

We've all, well most have cricitized Trump when it was warranted.  Does anyone have any screen shots or info of the deleted Tweets?

Big difference in factual criticism, and Cheney / Romney like Orange hate.

I would expect there’s a lot of 2016 NT’s who were genuinely converted into 2020 Trump voters by the way in which President Trump governed. I don’t begrudge someone who genuinely acknowledges they were mistaken about Trump... I believe we all had our doubts early on. That said, I’d need to see/read/hear more about how Vance came to his new view on the President before assessing his authenticity.
