That means 18% of all Southwest flights today are experiencing a delay.
In an effort to reduce flight problems induced by pandemic layoffs and post-pandemic demand, Southwest announced this week it is hiring workers en masse and increasing its minimum wage to $15.
June 27, 9 a.m. For the second time this month, Southwest Airlines again canceled and delayed thousands of flights this weekend. According to the aviation blog One Mile at a Time, 48% of Southwest’s schedule was either delayed or canceled on June 25. Flight Aware shows another another 307 flights canceled on Saturday, which amounts to 9% of all Southwest flights.

Southwest, however, is not alone in struggling with labor and other challenges facing the airline industry in this late-pandemic era. American Airlines recently announced that they will cancel about 1% of their scheduled flights throughout the month of July.
Having flown to and from KC on Southwest, we experienced delays at pretty much every stage. One problem in trying to emerge from a prolonged shutdown or severe cutback is that all those trained employees still have bills to pay, and many moved on to different jobs, from which they won't return. I also have heard that some pilots were furloughed long enough that they have to requalify for their aircraft.
