Hammer thrower Gwen Berry turns away from flag while anthem plays at trials: 'I feel like it was a setup'

EUGENE, Ore. -- For the past week, the national anthem has played one time per evening at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials. On Saturday, the song happened to start while outspoken activist Gwen Berry was standing on the podium after receiving her bronze medal in the hammer throw.

While the music played, Berry placed her left hand on her hip and fidgeted. She took a quarter turn, so she was facing the stands, not the flag. Toward the end, she plucked up her black T-shirt with the words "Activist Athlete" emblazoned on the front, and draped it over her head.

"I feel like it was a setup, and they did it on purpose,'' Berry said of the timing of the anthem. "I was pissed, to be honest.''

Berry's reaction to the "Star-Spangled Banner'' was as notable as anything on the track on a blazing-hot Saturday, the second-to-last day at U.S. Olympic trials. With temperatures reaching 101 degrees (38 Celsius) on the field, DeAnna Price won the event with a throw of 263 feet, 6 inches (80.31 meters), which was nearly 7 feet longer than Berry's throw. Price broke the meet record on four of her six throws, and the last two of those throws also broke the American record.

Second place belonged to Brooke Andersen, while Berry grabbed the third spot by a scant 2 inches over Janee Kassanavoid. Berry, heading to her second Olympics, has promised to use her position in Tokyo to keep raising awareness about social injustices in her home country.

They should replace her with the 4th place finisher. A two-inch advantage isn't worth tolerating this headache. If she hates America so much, then maybe she should find a different country to sponsor her for her own personal political platform.

This hateful bitch and any others, male, female or mentally ill that disrespect the American flag and nation should not be allowed to compete for America. Let these, I can't write what I think, #*$!##@'s find some other country they are proud of and beg them to allow her to compete under their flag. In her case might I suggest she contact one of the nations on the African continent so that she won't be bothered by her perceptions of unfairness and hatred of Whites history of slavery.

Of course she may have to come to grips with the history of slavery and slave trading by people of her color on the African continent and probably be the target of derision and hostility by true Africans.

The White House defended the right of professional athletes to “peacefully protest” after an Olympic hammer thrower turned her back on the American flag at an award ceremony.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said she had not spoken specifically to President Joe Biden about the incident, but expressed broad support for protests during the national anthem.

Biden, Psaki said, is “incredibly proud” to be an American and has “great respect” for the national anthem.

“He would also say, of course, that part of that pride in our country means recognizing there are moments when we as a country haven’t lived up to our highest ideals,” she continued. “And it means respecting the right of people granted to them in the Constitution to peacefully protest.”

Olympic hammer thrower Gwen Berry turned her back to the flag at an award ceremony during the Olympic trials in Oregon on Saturday.

Berry, who won third place in the match, raised a black T-shirt with the words “Activist Athlete” printed on it and draped it over her head during the anthem.

Tyrus condemns Berry but says it was alright for Smith and Carlos to raise fists at the '68 Olympics.
I was quite happy to see those two jerks bounced off the Olympic team. They just raised the racial antagonism further with the idiotic fist salute. Then as now blacks created 99% of their problems.

Unfortunately, she's on the world stage in a foreign country where this is no George Floyd, Derek Chauvin, or anything else American for that matter.

That's why she's there - to represent America. She has zero right to protest, and there is zero room for racialist activism.

Then she decides that her views, race, morality, and cause override all that, and we are to bow at her feet.

What I like though is the New Record Holding Winner Deanna Price has a wonderful grin on her face, and was holding a flag. Sadly her triumphic moment was sullied by more BLM Bullshit.
