House Speaker Nancy Pelosi provoked confusion when she announced during her weekly press briefing Thursday that she intends to launch a committee to investigate both the “root causes” of the Jan. 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol and the security flaws that had allowed the attack to occur.
“It is imperative that we establish the truth of that day, and ensure that an attack of that kind cannot happen and that we root out the causes of it all. The select committee will investigate and report on the facts and the causes of the attack and it will make report recommendations for the prevention of any future attack,” she said.

What triggered confusion was her premature conclusion that the so-called “root causes” of the riot were “white supremacy,” “anti-Semitism” and “Islamophobia.”
She said it “was so evident” that these are the “root causes.”
