Miami Dade Fire Rescue was conducting search and rescue operations, and said in a tweet that more than 80 units were “on scene with assistance from municipal fire departments.”
Authorities had no word yet on casualties or details of how many people lived in the building.
“We’re on the scene so it’s still very active,” said Sgt. Marian Cruz of the Surfside Police Department. “What I can tell you is the building is twelve floors. The entire back side of the building has collapsed.”

A massive rescue operation is underway after an apartment building close to Miami Beach collapsed in the early hours of this morning.
The ocean-front building, a twelve-story apartment complex called Champlain Towers South, has partially collapsed, fire rescue services have confirmed.
Neighbours say the building of around 100 apartments that sell for up to $915,000 was mostly occupied after being completed in 1981 near 88th street and Collins Avenue in Surfside, Florida. Jared and Ivanka Trump's rented Miami Beach apartment is one block away.
One woman has died and at least nine people are injured, including a firefighter, following the collapse just before 1.30am, according to local media reports.
There are fears that many more people may be dead or remain trapped beneath the rubble and witnesses have reported hearing screaming from beneath the rubble as a search-and-rescue operation begins.

No more than anyone else who owns a building a block away.
(If they were directly involved with that building, that would have been the first thing in the headline.)
It's just more a mention to try to establish guilt by association because they have a building in the same area.
Associating someone with something negative or positive, even in the most obtuse way, is commonly used by crappy propagandists to reflect badly (or well) on someone unrelated to the events of the story.
