LPGA Moves Portland Tournament to Suburb Due to Homeless Concerns

The LPGA moved the Portland Classic to a suburb for the first time in 50 years due to safety concerns in the city.

The event usually takes place at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Northeast Portland.

The city’s rise in homelessness, including people living near the parking lots of the country club, led to the decision:

“Their reason for departure center around the City of Portland’s response to safety and security around the city. With LPGA players, Media, Sponsors, and thousands of spectators coming into town this fall, the tournament organizers had concerns about the safety of the city and opted to find a venue out of the city limits,” Ken Smith said in the letter. “At this point, we are unsure about future years of the tournament and where it will be conducted. But we will keep you informed of any updates as we learn more in the coming months.”

The new venue appears to be 15 or 20 miles from the traditional venue ... and well outside of the City of Portland. Stupidity has consequences.

Interesting. Mr. M and I attended this tournament in 2015. I never would have thought the homeless would be camping near Columbia Edgewater. It's a beautiful golf course, somewhat near the airport.

It's downtown Portland that is such a pit - even 6 years ago, it was overrun with homeless and drugged-up young people.

For 2004 DNC Convention in Boston, all the homeless people were raptured for two weeks.  After the convention, the homeless magically re-appeared.

Heaven forbid Portland officials actually clean up the mess. It's easier to inconvenience the LPGA, tournament organizers, TV crews, spectators, etc., than to clear out the junk and the bums.

If the Major sports bodies would remove all events from Portland we might see a change.  But then you can only be woke when it hurts red states or it will not hurt your bottom line.
