President Joe Biden will deliver a speech Wednesday that will blame gun ownership for a dramatic rise in violent crime in America’s major cities.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki previewed Biden’s upcoming address during the daily press briefing on Monday.

“The President feels a lot — a great deal of the crime we’re seeing is a result of gun violence,” she said. “You can expect he’ll speak to that and his commitment to continuing to address gun violence and gun safety in the country.”

Biden will acknowledge the rise in violent crimes that occurred under his watch as Democrats face a crippling political narrative that their policies are to blame.

The murder rate has risen 25 percent and violent crime rose about three percent, according to new FBI data.

Not quite true.  One can classify violence, murder and suicide by the method used.  The problem is that doing so creates morally vacuous categories: the soul of the murderer is just as stained, the friends and relatives of the victim just as bereaved and the victim just as dead if a knife, length of rebar, baseball bat, or fists and feet were used to kill as if a gun and bullet(s) were the means; similarly for other violence and suicide.

Of course there is more crime now - policemen are quitting rather than staying because they cannot protect themselves using their weapons.  Defend yourself, shoot someone, and end up in prison.  Wait, have to change that.  Shoot a black person and end up in prison.  It is okay to shoot white people.

I was totally stunned when the Texas Legislature passed the bill allowing people to carry guns without having a concealed carry permit.  That means I can have a weapon in my car even though I have no concealed carry permit.  This law takes effect September 1, 2021.  Amazing.  Governor Abbott, in his wheelchair, goes hunting - he is a gun guy.

Back to policemen:  They are quitting and I would say there are very few men/women wanting to be a policeman and end up dead or in prison.  Better to be a bagger at a grocery store than end up dead/in prison, as a policeman.

You were already allowed to have a gun in your car before this bill in Texas.  Generally speaking, Texas law allows people to transport a handgun in their vehicle as long as they are otherwise allowed to possess a firearm.

A White House Fact Sheet previewing President Joe Biden’s Wednesday afternoon speech suggests he will announce increased overwatch of Federal Firearms License holders (FFLs) as part of his response to surging crime.

According to the White House, Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) “is announcing a new policy to underscore zero tolerance for willful violations of the law by [FFLs] that put public safety at risk.”

What the new policy means in real terms:

Absent extraordinary circumstances that would need to be justified to the Director, ATF will seek to revoke the licenses of dealers the first time that they violate federal law by willfully 1) transferring a firearm to a prohibited person, 2) failing to run a required background check, 3) falsifying records, such as a firearms transaction form, 4) failing to respond to an ATF tracing request, or 5) refusing to permit ATF to conduct an inspection in violation of the law.
