Pregnant soldier given pointless duty sitting in armory as unit conducts training

'They had the right intentions in mind.'

By Haley Britzky June 17, 2021

    News Army

A pregnant specialist in the Oregon National Guard is back home on Thursday after staying in her unit armory for an unclear amount of time while her battalion was gone for annual training this week.

According to an Instagram post on Wednesday night, a soldier with the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team told her leadership she was pregnant before annual training began on Sunday, and when she provided them a letter from her doctor they said “she could hang out in Casa de Armory.” By Thursday afternoon the post had gotten the attention of Sgt. Maj. of the Army Michael Grinston, who commented: “Terrible story – I’m working with the [National Guard Bureau Command Sgt. Maj.] to fix it.”

Lt. Col. Pete Wood, commander of the brigade’s 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry Regiment, confirmed some of the details of that post. He said he was notified on Wednesday night that a female specialist was staying in the battalion’s armory building while the battalion was out conducting training.

Most people who have been TAD in that situation probably experienced the same thing.  I was TAD in Treasure Island after my father passed away, until my ship came back from overseas.  My first assignment was to measure all the rooms in an old building that was going to be torn down.  I struggled with that for at least two hours when I reported for more work.  The old Chief in charge assured me I didn't understand the assignment and told me to make sure I had it done.  I thought, "ah, I get it" and went to the EM club for the rest of the day.  What do people think can be done with people in that situation, help build rockets? wink777

I'm not sure I understand the problem.  Were they supposed to put a pregnant woman in the field for training exercises?

Cyber, no, they needed to find an acceptable military duty for this woman - not just leave her by herself to do nothing.

HOWEVER, ranger and Liberty, women do not belong in a military unit, for two good reasons and likely more:

1. Boys, at an early age, realize and are taught by parents and seeing their father act this way: that girls are weaker than they are.  They see the father helping the mother by lifting heavy objects for her, doing other things she cannot do.  Therefore, men will defer to women, help them, protect them, and in a war situation in a foxhole, will protect the military woman rather than leaving her unprotected to engage the enemy.  Do not put a distraction in a fox hole or any other situation like that, where the soldier feels in his gut he must first protect the woman.

A story:  Son was dating a girl and girl said son treats her so well.  Son said, "I learned how to treat women by watching how my father treats my mother."  That is true, a son tends to follow the father's example in all areas of living.

2. Men, in their DNA, are born to want to have sex with every woman in the universe.  That is how/why we have people on the planet.  When one puts women and men together, there will be sex. Fake story: In a fox hole, man wonders if they have enough time for sex before the enemy attacks; so they have a quickie.  One month later, woman tells man she is pregnant.  Man thinks, "Surely not, we did it so fast I did not think that would happen."  Well, it did.

So, women should not be in the military in a position where there is hand to hand combat because the men on her side will concentrate on protecting her, and sex between men and women in the military causes pregnancies.

Women can fly planes but there is still the sex problem at the base where they live.

What is the answer to these problems?  None if women are in the military.
Now, the women here are going to complain about what I wrote, and men likely to do the same.  Tough cookies - it is the truth.

@Victoria33 i won’t complain your post is mostly true.

Except the part about all men wanting to have sex with every woman in the universe. That is most definitely NOT true.

Yes, it is.  You are controlling the urge.  Ever looked at a man's magazine full of almost nude women?  Why do those sell?  Ever watched an X-rated film?  Why?  Why are there sex stores selling such films?  Seen truckers parked at such a sex store on the highways?  Why?  Why was there a whole thread on here that was mainly about women's breasts?

I don’t know about any of that. I can only say that, being one, I know for a fact all men do not want to boff all women. Some of us actually are/were a bit more selective.

The women in the magazines are a small selected subset of femininity in general, chosen for characteristics which would get the interest of those interested in looking at magazines with pictures of physically attractive and well proportioned women.

That subset is not representative of the general population of women, where 41.9% of women are obese, for example.

Not everyone is attracted to the same attributes or facial features, and sometimes there is just no urge whatsoever to control.
So saying ALL men are looking at ALL women with sex on their minds just does a great disservice to humanity and your profession by trying to perpetuate the nonsense that sex is "all men think about".

We DO think about it at times, and those thoughts might be initiated by the sight of a woman we find attractive (again, not the same attributes are attractive to all men) but that is all part of continuing the species. Now, try and tell me women don't think about sex, too. Sheesh.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

That's what I'm trying to figure out.  So a gal gets pregnant and is assigned a desk gig for the duration.  So effin' what? If I were a soldier and I broke my leg, I'd have zero problem with marking time at a "pointless job" until I'm ready to get back in there.

And besides that, why are we paying people to do "pointless jobs?"

Women should not be in the military.  Yes, I am old fashioned.  Maybe some desk job.

Exactly. If you got shot up so badly you were temporarily unable to do your normal job and were in SF,you would get assigned to some rear echelon job like supply, motor pool,or an administrative job until you could recover and go back to doing your normal MOS job. This was never even questioned.

You didn't have to get shot up,either. You could be injured some non-war related way,or even sick. Accommodations were make and I never ONCE heard anyone criticizing it.

Frankly,if there had been a woman in a support role like truck driver or parachute packer in SF back when I was in the army,I would have been pissed if they HADN'T put her on light duty if she got pregnant.

What the HELL is wrong with these people?

And besides that, why are we paying people to do "pointless jobs?"

It's exactly what happened to my brother when he broke his leg on Guam, they brought him home to the VA in Long Beach, Ca where they had him pull pointless guard duty every day. I supposed that that was some how sexist and everyone should have been outraged. Criminy, when women are treated like everyone else, as they demand, then people cry out about how unfair it is.

There's an army of "nonessential" Federal Employees we pay, who get to sit at home (and eventually get paid) every time Congress does the fiscal blackmail routine of 'shutting down the government'.

I can say that I out grew men's magazines very early in my twenties and having seen two x-rated films when I turned eighteen I had no desire to see any more such stupidity. I outgrew wanting to have sex with every attractive girl/women after I got married at 19, I had all I wanted at home. I being a son of Adam do truly appreciate beautiful women, however a glance is sufficient I have no need to stare or drool. I think you used a tad too broad of a brush, and if you truly believe that all men are like what you said in your post.......................politely, NO.

I'm so old that I remember when we worried about enemy intentions, capabilities and actions. We actually worried about national security, winning in combat, and victory. I'm glad we now prioritize the really important stuff about war... how we can win, how we can kill the bad guys, and how we can survive is really all about pregnancy.

It really is absolutely stunning that there ACTUALLY senior field grade officers in the United States Army that have nothing to concern themselves with and take up their time than a pregnant female soldier on temporary light duty.

They had better be VEWWY,VEWWY grateful that *I* am not the one that writes up their fitness reports.

Anybody THAT petty and anal doesn't deserve to be in a position of command responsibility because frankly,he or she isn't up to it.

And when I write "command responsibility" I mean EVERY rank from Corporal up to 4 star General.

Frankly,I am beginning to be ashamed to tell people that I was a career NCO in the US Army.

It's just like after 9/11.  Everyone had a flag and feeling so patriotic.  Now on the street where I live, I'm the only one who flies the American Flag everyday.  Almost every day I wear something that clearly shows I am as patriotic as ever, or I am a Viet Nam Vet, or at least ex-military.  I am proud of my service and my country and refuse to be cowed by all the people who flew the flag on 9/12 now are "woke" and hate their country.  So do, apparently, many of the top tier officers.  We both know what countries without freedom are like; of which  so many "woke" people have no concept of.  And I will continue to be proud of my service and this country until I'm doing the great dirt nap. :amen:

Thanks for compliment.  Every time I get down about the country I think of  a sweatshirt I have which states: "My oath of enlistment has no expiration date."  I think it's something the SecDef and Chief of the Joint Chiefs need to think about.  :patriot:
