St. Louis Couple Who Wielded Guns At Protesters Plead Guilty—And Give Up Their Weapons

Jemima McEvoy Forbes Staff

Topline

Mark and Patricia McCloskey, a St. Louis couple who gained notoriety after brandishing guns at Black Lives Matter protesters last summer, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges and agreed to give up their weapons in court on Thursday afternoon.

Key Facts

The couple, lawyers from Missouri, were each slammed with a felony charge for unlawful use of a weapon last July.

But last month a special prosecutor amended the charges against Patricia McCloskey and filed a new indictment giving jurors the alternative of convicting the couple of misdemeanor harassment charges instead.

Mark McCloskey, who has seized on the national attention to launch a bid for Senate, pleaded guilty to a Class C misdemeanor of 4th degree assault, while Patricia McCloskey pleaded guilty to a Class A misdemeanor of second-degree harassment.

Neither will face jail-time, but will have to pay a collective fine of $2,750 and forfeit their guns to be destroyed.

Quote
...After accepting the McCloskeys' pleas in court Thursday, Circuit Judge David Mason denied the couple's request that Mark McCloskey's rifle be donated to charity for use in charity fundraisers. The McCloskeys' lawyer Joel Schwartz said the couple would have liked to donate the rifle to the Missouri Historical Society or "for auction to the (St. Louis) Children's Hospital."

Mark McCloskey, outside the Carnahan Courthouse, said "this is a good day for the McCloskeys," expressing no remorse for his actions.

"The prosecutor dropped every charge except for alleging that I purposely placed other people in imminent risk of physical injury, right, and I sure as heck did," Mark McCloskey said outside the Carnahan Courthouse on Thursday. "That's what the guns were there for and I'd do it again any time the mob approaches me ... In other words, I stood out on the porch with my rifle and made them back up. And that's what I'd do again. If that's a crime in Missouri, by God I did it, and I'd do it again."...

...Their guilty pleas to misdemeanors will not affect the couple's ability to own guns or run for office, Schwartz said.

Gov. Mike Parson said last year that he'd "certainly" pardon the McCloskeys if they are convicted stemming from the June confrontation....

These two are both lawyers and they agreed to plead guilty???????

They were on their own property, facing off with rioters committing a felony crime by tearing down their fence/gate in order to try to attack them.

AND.....,they didn't even shoot anybody. They just stood there BY THEIR OWN FRONT DOOR,holding their weapons.

How the HELL can that be a felony crime?

That guy is a LAWYER? What cereal box did his law degree come from?

He plead guilty and gave his rifle up,so he is never going to be able to legally own OR possess a firearm again.

He thinks it was bad this time,he's  REALLY going to be in deep do-do if he does it again.

@Sled Dog

Doesn't matter. He has now PLEAD GUILTY to a firearms offense. The fool just threw away his right to own or possess a firearm.

Heard that by doing this they avoid a felony and can further purchase weapons.

I'm not walking in their moccasins but what a disappointment these two handed the pig-dog DA a victory like this.

You mean they avoided TRIAL.

Since they didn't do anything illegal and didn't do anything wrong, someone must have threatened their country club membership.s

@Weird Tolkienish Figure

I dunno how that would be possible after they already plead guilty to firearms violations and threatening people with firearms.

Maybe I am wrong, but given the tendency for DA's and judges of today to ban weapons ownership for any and all reasons,it seems to be to be unlikely they will ever be allowed to legally own firearms again.

They're lawyers.

Maybe they keep their bar memberships if they don't get hit with a felony.

They are liberal lawyers.  Hypocrites.  They know the system is rigged.

These attorneys can look forward to a home warming soon. Perhaps from the inside of their
home as that seems to be the standard practice out in Portland.

In the article I quoted above, their lawyer states they have not lost the ability to own guns.

Maybe so, but McCloskey just blew his chance to be elected to anything with this cave-in.  Leftists will never vote for somebody who (now proven illegally, thanks to this plea) warding off the anarchist shock troops, and the Right won't vote for somebody so weak-willed.  Lose-lose.

Nah, you hit the nail on the head.

Armed white folks hold off POCs trespassing on their property after breaking and entering (tore down a metal gate just to get there) to protest white folks?

Mark McCloskey, who pulled gun on St. Louis BLM protesters, shows off new rifle

The gun-toting St. Louis lawyer who pleaded guilty to pulling a gun on Black Lives Matter protesters is flaunting his new rifle.

Mark McCloskey picked up a brand new AR-15-style gun — after surrendering his old one last week as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.

“Checking out my new AR!” the controversial attorney, who is running for Senate, boasted on Twitter in two photos, one with his wife Patricia, giving the thumbs up inside a gun store.

McCloskey is seen smiling with the weapon in front of a wall of semi-automatic rifles.
