A bill to revive former President Donald Trump’s flagging effort was quashed in the House, never discussed in the Senate and left out of Gov. Greg Abbott’s policy priorities for the legislative session.

“With well over 100,000 illegal immigrants crossing the open Texas border last month, I don’t understand how this isn’t a top priority,” Rep. Bryan Slaton, a freshman Republican from Royse City, lamented to a conservative news outlet in April, saying House leaders had refused to give his border wall bill a hearing.

Now the proposal is front and center for the party, with Abbott vowing on Thursday to pick up where Trump left off, even if the logistics remain elusive. The governor said he would provide a full plan next week.

Abbott said in a radio interview Friday he envisions at least some of the money would be crowdsourced, a strategy used during the Trump years that became mired in allegations of fraud.

The Legislature has already approved a record $1.1 billion in funding for border security over the next two fiscal years to cover the costs of state trooper patrols.

The only available state dollars are about $11 billion in the rainy day fund, or nearly $16 billion in federal stimulus that is set to be allocated this fall in a special legislative session. The federal funds, however, have a number of strings attached to them and it’s unclear whether the House and Senate would agree to use those dollars for the wall.

I wouldn't be so quick to start throwing that party, yet.  I wouldn't be so quick to assume that Abbott is going to get 'er done -- intentions are there and he's asking for help from other state governments but ....

He will have absolutely no help from Biden and cronies:

Biden administration to return $2 billion in Trump border wall funds to Pentagon

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/biden-administration-return-billion-trump-border-wall-funds/story?id=78225965

Biden to return diverted border wall money, spend down rest

Perhaps the biggest obstacle (and it's a huge one) is that the border will lose the fast-track status that enabled it to bypass environmental regulations under a Biden administration.

So Abbott needs a tremendous amount of $$$ and he will undoubtedly run up against not only environmental issues, but the Biden administration is seizing land to stop the building.

Biden pledged to stop building the wall. But he just won the right to seize a Texas family’s land for it.

We all knw tat Biden and the DNC want open borders. They have already ESTABLISHED open borders so that penniless immigrants can come into our country freely and vote Dem to get free money, free healthcare, free college, etc. We know that. Abbott will make it without any Dem/lib funding. We Texans will support him. After all, we are the ones he is protecting... when the feds refuse to do so. We'd rather see higher taxes in pursuit of our own security than higher taxes to support the endless minions entering our country illegally.

Sure, the intentions are absolutely there.  However, Biden is seizing land so that the border wall CAN NOT be completely built.  How much land he can seize is yet to be recognized. Most of the land needed for the border wall is either State land, which may be still a problem because of the EPA, and the other portion is private.  He can seize it be eminent domain.

I am not trying to discredit Abbott and certainly not the will of Texans, but merely pointing out the reality of what he and Texans are up against.

Texas governor puts $250 million down payment on a border wall

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced Wednesday he was putting a $250 million down payment on a state-led project to build “hundreds of miles” of border wall as part of a security plan he said was made necessary by the federal government’s neglect of communities along the state’s international river boundary with Mexico.

Abbott, who is seeking a third term in 2022 and was recently endorsed by former president Donald Trump, opened his remarks by crediting the previous administration’s policies for slowing migration and tying his state’s perceived woes to the Biden administration’s dismantling of those programs. Trump announced Tuesday that he had accepted Abbott’s invitation to visit the border this month.

Abbott painted a bleak picture of border cities as victims of an “open border” policy he blames for the large numbers of migrants “wreaking havoc” and “carnage” on both populous and remote communities along the Rio Grande.
