McConnell opposes a bill restoring a key part of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, dashing all hope of any congressional action on voting

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell threw cold water on a bipartisan proposal to revitalize the Voting Rights Act, dooming any hope of Congress taking action on voting rights this summer.

McConnell formally came out against the bipartisan proposal by Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin and Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act as an alternative to S. 1, the For The People Act, Democrats' wide-ranging voting rights and democracy reform package.

"There's no threat to the Voting Rights Act, it's against the law to discriminate in voting on the basis of race already, and so I think it's unnecessary," McConnell told reporters in his weekly news conference.

Earlier that day, Murkowski acknowledged to reporters that while the bill is more narrowly targeted than S. 1, getting the 10 Senate Republican votes required to break the filibuster is a challenge. Most legislation in the Senate requires a three-fifths majority vote to get past the filibuster and go to a vote, and no other Senate Republicans have expressed support for the measure.

"To get to 60, it's pretty difficult to count," Murkowski said, according to CNN. .............

Maybe if McConnell had DONE HIS JOB and objected to the false electors he wouldn't be having to fend off these fascist efforts to eliminate honest elections in the US he's facing now.
The GOP is not the party leadership.  The GOP is the party MEMBERSHIP.   The members need to kick the leaders out if they leaders are going the wrong way.  No coddling allowed.

Ah, the mid terms.  The RNC/GOP didn't learn from the '18 midterms.  The RNC/GOP didn't learn from the recent general election, so what makes anyone think that the GOP has a snowball's chance in the '22 mid terms ??

@libertybele

The RNC/GOP is too concerned with Trump running again and how to stop him to be bothered with anything that trivial.

Then lets talk about how the freedom loving States can leave the USA and become their own nation.

It should be clear to everyone by now that there is no middle ground with the leftists. They want our total submission to govt and the surrender of all our individual liberties.

Anything in a bill named "John Lewis voting rights" would be designed to corrupt the integrity of the vote, especially insomuch as it impacts the votes of whites...

Clear as day, democrats find filibusters intolerable to their Czar like rules, but must be invoked when republicans get the upper hand.  The rules must only be applied when they favor democrats, and must be withdrawn when that favors Republicans?  Rule by tyrannical hypocrisy,doncha know ?
