Harding Street raid update: Ex-HPD officer Steven Bryant pleads guilty in federal court

Bryant first officer connected to Harding Street to plead guilty.

A former Houston Police Department narcotics officer pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to federal charges in connection to the 2019 deadly Harding Street raid.

Steven Bryant, 47, pleaded guilty in federal court via Zoom to destruction, alteration or falsification of government records. Federal prosecutors said Bryant prepared and completed a report where he falsely claimed to have assisted Gerald Goines in the investigation that left Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nicholas dead in the botched raid.

On Tuesday, federal prosecutor Alamdar Hamdani said Bryant never visited or witnessed any purchases of drugs at the couple’s home at 7815 Harding Street. Hamdani added Bryant submitted a false report with the intent to impede the investigation into the deadly raid.

How can this be construed to be a federal matter?

A federal grand jury on Wednesday charged two former Houston police officers at the center of a failed January drug raid with civil rights violations, falsifying records and lying about use of confidential informants, marking the latest turn in one of the worst HPD scandals in decades.

Seems civil rights violations can be claimed on 100% of any incidents and a way for federal power to come to bear for any type of state action, doesn't it?

And there is no federal statute for falsifying records or lying about confidential informants in what appears to be a wholly in-state matter of the way a police force conducts itself.

To me, this is just another usurping of power reserved to the states as per the 10th Amendment.
