Last month, Democrats in the U.S. House and Senate announced legislation intended to expand the Supreme Court to 13 seats, in the wake of President Donald Trump’s three appointments to the court.

Members of the Texas Legislature have officially registered their opposition to proposals from national Democrats to pack the United States Supreme Court.

On Wednesday, the Texas House heard and passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 41, which urges Congress to reject proposals to expand the number of seats on the U.S. Supreme Court. The resolution passed the House on a partisan 77-64 vote.

State Rep. Mayes Middleton (R–Wallisville), the House sponsor of the resolution, emphasized that keeping the Supreme Court at nine justices is a tradition going back to 1869 that should not be destroyed by political operatives.
