A reflection from history supported by Dr. Jeremy Black of Cambridge U.
Slavery was born w/Man and its catalyst was the eternal and natural inequality of Mankind.
As Man evolved, Cultures that avoided/distained Tribalism, matured and thrived as
millennia passed.
The reason is uncomplicated, as Tribalism repressed Individualism, while promoting
Group Think. The legacy of Africa, South America and large parts of Asia, are testament
to that reality.
In contrast, Europe's powerful individual identity, birthed Western Civilization, our heritage.
As for African Slavery, it was essentially a business opportunity.
Relentless conflict was the norm across Africa thru the ages until someone grasped that there was a market for slaves; so selling, not killing prisoners, made sense.
Hence the birth of the slave trade w/the Arab Corsairs of the Indian Ocean as Bus Drivers.
African Slavery came to No. America (the Colonies) from our "Parents" the British who emigrated in 1607 at Jamestown, Virginia. We remained subjects of the Crown and Parliament until 1789, a span of 182 years. Then the Emancipation Proclamation was
issued in 1863, 74 years later; defining the timeline of our responsibility for Slavery.
