What slavery reparations from the federal government could look like
Black Americans have been fighting for reparations tied to slavery for generations. Here's what that fight looks like in 2021.

May 12, 2021, 5:00 AM CDT / Updated May 12, 2021, 9:29 AM CDT

By P.R. Lockhart

After decades of work from activists pushing the issue, presidential candidates, Congress members, local governments and private institutions have debated whether and how the federal government should issue reparations for Black Americans who are descendants of slaves.

As the Biden administration promises to confront structural racism and inequality, a growing number of Democratic lawmakers have given their support to H.R. 40, a decades-old bill first introduced by Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., in 1989. The bill would create a commission to study slavery and discrimination in the United States  and potential reparations proposals for restitution.

In April, H.R. 40 moved out of committee for the first time, potentially setting up a floor vote on the legislation.

Meanwhile, the ongoing reckoning with racial injustice and the health disparities exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic have called further attention to the ways Black people have faced generations of systemic discrimination.

But with an issue so large and complex, proponents suggest a range of ways the U.S. could engage in reparations while opponents say the time for redress for slavery and the discrimination that followed has passed.

If there ever was a way to incite a tax revolt....   This would be the way.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

A bill that authorizes a study...

There are so many issues that reparations would take. What is the threshold for proof of slavery ancestors, could obviously white people who have a tiny bit of slaveholder ancestry qualify? Who is black and who is white? A lot of people have some mixed blood.

I think this is just red meat thrown to their idiot constituents.

What slavery reparations from the federal government could look like
Black Americans have been fighting for reparations tied to slavery for generations.

Those who were themselves slaves had a case for reparations; that they did not receive the promised 40 acres and a mule was, IMO, an injustice, but the last of them died almost a hundred years ago.

Today's push for reparations is an example of the "progressives" insistence that a just society deals with the inherited grievances of groups rather than the needs, efforts, and character of individuals.  I struggle to think of a more fundamentally anti-American idea.

They aren't going to look at any of these things.  If one is black, regardless of lineage, he/she will get a check drawn from the Treasury.  They never consider where money comes from, so in the end wealthy blacks will foot the bill, even if they're direct descendants of slaves, while working white people also pay up.
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16

What about if we identify as black?

Oddly enough, self-identification is only allowed for Rat constituents.

Serious question: how will they prove someone is black or not?

Everybody will be taxed.

Nobody will be questioned on their true heritage.   Senator Pocahontas will object to that.

So the country will borrow tens of trillions of dollars more from China.

And someday China is going to come to collect the debt.   Since the Usurper Biden is going to resume Obama's task of dismantling our military, China might come collecting sooner than we think.

I sense an opportunity to make money investing in one of those home DNA test kits....and another lemonaid-stand opportunity for po' (b)lack children with spit to spare...

I see another business opportunity forging documents to prove "blackness."

I see another business opportunity forging documents to prove "blackness."

That's what I said.

The easiest forgery will be to put your name on someone else's DNA that you know to be on the desired characteristics.

Senatorette Warren was incredibly stupid.   She used her own DNA, knowing she was lying, and then published the results, knowing the results proved she was whiter than a polar bear.   When she could have had a staffer go to any cherokee casino and bribe someone for some anonymous injun spittle.  Okay, they would have had to be smart enough to get FEMALE indian spittle, which would have been a challenge for her.

But there's no reason we can't all be "opressed" if we're creative.   it's not like they're going to do a case-by-case DNA comparison.

Just offer some homeless (b)lack guy ten bucks for a swab and you're done.   Admitted, it's harder to find homeless females, but not here in L.A.

And, much more to the point, if those racist fascists actually pass any such discriminatory crap as this, it's the patriotic DUTY of every American to declare their (b)lackness and to back it up with reliable DNA testing.   What are they going to do, start judging people by the color of their skin?  (Yes, they already do...)

I don't doubt they'll go after descendants of slave holders. I found via ancestry.com that one of my ancestors had a few slaves, who loved him dearly. That probably  won't get me off the hook. **nononono*

There is no DNA test that shows if someone is a descendent of a salve in the United States. I don't think there's even a scientific definition of "black". I mean you have dark skinned races all over the world. Do they mean only dark skinned Africans? What about those from islands like Haiti?

In any case, in preparation for my reparations, henceforth please refer to me as Lemonte (pronounced Le-mon-tay).
