Kinzinger compares Republican Party to the Titanic
By Mychael Schnell - 05/09/21 11:42 AM EDT

GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) on Sunday compared the Republican Party to the Titanic amid an internal battle surrounding Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and the push to oust her from her GOP leadership position.

When asked about the intra-party conflict by host John Dickerson on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Kinzinger said the GOP is “in the middle of this slow sink.”

“Right now, it's basically the Titanic. We're like, you know, in this in the middle of this slow sink, we have a band playing on the deck telling everybody it's fine. And meanwhile, as I've said, you know, Donald Trump's running around trying to find women's clothing and get on the first lifeboat,” Kinzger said.

“And I think there's a few of us that are just saying ‘guys this is not good,’ not just for the future of the party, but this is not good for the future of this country,” he added.

Kinzinger also zeroed in on House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) comments regarding former President Trump’s role in the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, adding that Cheney has been consistent.

Meanwhile, Kinzinger and Cheney are in a leaking lifeboat, right?

The ironic irony is they're going down anyway.

Kinzinger should have used the analogy of George Armstrong Custer. Before the Battle of Little Big Horn, Custer smoked the peace pipe with (I believe) Sitting Bull and the Lakota Indians, and vowed never to raise a weapon against the Indians. Sorry, I'm going from memory of a visit to the national monument several years ago.

So, not only were the Indians furious over the broken treaties, but Custer broke his vow to the Indians by doing battle at Little Big Horn.

Kinzinger, and all Republican politicians, should fear the consequences of not keeping their word to their voters.

It's a sign of rotten times that they don't.

I don't think Mr. Kinzinger's comparison of The Titanic is all that far off, considering the current crop of elected Republicans.

Right now, it's pretty much sink or swim for the Pubbies.
And too many of 'em aren't even flapping their arms around.

Kinzinger is hopefully in the same boat as Cheney.  These people are just not welcome from my perspective.
