California man arrested for selling fake vaccination cards

A bar owner in Clemonts, Calif., has been arrested for creating and selling phony vaccination cards.

According to prosecutors, the owner of the Old Corner Saloon, Todd Anderson, was charged after he sold the fake vaccine passports to undercover officers multiple times for $20 each.

At the time of his arrest, officers found Anderson “in possession of a number of other unfilled out COVID-19 vaccination cards, a laminating machine, laminate and several other cards that were finished,” Luke Blehm of California’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, told the New York Post.

Anderson -- who has been charged with identity theft, forging government documents, and falsifying medical records -- could have his bar’s license suspended or revoked.

My half completed vax card is literally less than 3 feet from my nose right now. It would take drunkenness to think a counterfeit would be an effective ID. Fakes could be created en masse using an all-in-one scanner-printer-copier costing less than $200! Something like the HP all-in-one inches from my mouse hand.

ETA: The State of California has a database of all vaccinations given in CA. So, for example, when I had the flu shot last fall, the pharmacy was able to learn that I had not had the pneumonia vaccine. Thus, any fool buying one of those fakes could be easily found out if (s)he tried to use it for something like part of applying for a job that required Covid vaccination (hypothetically; I don't know of any company that does, though my industry probably would not have such a requirement).

I suspect the identity theft comes from coping name of person who gave the shot.  Not from using as an ID.
