The Nobel Prize was just the excuse for the trip.  It's like when you were a teenager and told your parents you were going to the library to study, but instead rode around with your friends drinking and smoking dope.

Even the most prestigious newspapers in the world can and often are used to launder petty personal beefs. Every news story you hear about Gates (and I have no doubt he's a shady guy) should be read through the filter of: Melinda Gates wants money and to come out the PR winner.

Or maybe she feels like a righteous crusader I dunno. I can't read minds, and that aspect of it is pure speculation. But the sudden rush of anti-Bill Gates stories in the MSM after years of the same MSM propping him up as a model citizen w/flattering coverage is...suspicious.
